The Starry Eye
Charlene Lichtenstein
Special to washingtonpost.com

Tuesday, June 10, 2003; 6:00 p.m ET

What's your sign? Do you want to know what the planets and heavenly bodies have aligned this year -- in your career, in romance or surprises in your daily life? Each week, "Madame" Lichtenstein, takes your questions on sun signs, lunar influences and all things in the stars.

Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.

Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot.

Wondering how Mercury in retrograde affects your day-to-day life? What eclipses means for you and your loved ones? How to get in touch with your rising sign?

The transcript follows.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, the washingtonpost.com celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a lively discussion about astrology and the new age. My websites are www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope and www.TheStarryEye.com

Starbite of the week:
Ever fly JetBlue airlines? They have a card in the seat pocket that offers you “Airplane Yoga” to increase tranquility. Positions such as Uttita Hastasana, Tolasana and Bidalasana are instructed for those confined in an airplane seat. It is an interesting way to reduce stress and provide a bit of new age instruction while you pass the inflight time.

And now let’s hear what you have to say. Please include your birthdate, time and place for all astrology questions. And, if you have any feedback on some of my past answers, please send them along!

Cambridge, Mass.: Mme Lichtenstein!

Just a reminder that you were going to do my relocation chart .. DOB 11/9/75, Houston, Tex., 7:06 a.m. I would like to know if I am moving to Washington this summer ... (and if there is a chance I might instead be moving to Chicago) ... that 'dream job' phone call still eludes, but I'm hoping it will come through soon! Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: The actual move is up to you but I have run charts for you for your birth city (Houston) and for Washington DC. The charts do have their differences. Basically you have sun in intense scorpio so you are generally a passionate person. Mercury in scorp – a sharp and penetrating mind. Venus in virgo – steady and loyal in love. A bit picky…. Mars in cancer – an emotional fighter.

The Houston chart has Leo on the top of the chart indicating that professionally you like to shine. You love to be recognized for your great achievements but chaff under authority. You do better working for someone who gives you the freedom and all the credit! Venus in your 11th house of friends – pals mean a great deal to you.
In DC virgo is on the top of your chart – practical, detailed oriented and “in the background” at work. You are a “doer” rather than a “player”. Venus in the 10th – you draw great satisfaction from your career and receive good feelings from the work you do.

I see you being much more effective career-wise in DC – mars the planet of action makes an excellent aspect to the top of your chart there. You may also be more directioned and serious about what you do. The secret though is to be sure that you get the credit you deserve for all your hard work. Let a bit of that Leo enthusiasm shine through!
I hope that helps!

Miami, Fla.: My husband and I own a company -- what do you see for that company -- growth and financial stability?

Second question, what do you see in store for my career -- I practice law and am thinking about changing.

I was born 10/25/54 in Wellinborough, England at 12:45 a.m.

My husband was born in Guyana, South America on 3/7/50 -- don't know the time.

Charlene Lichtenstein: This is an excellent question and one that we have not really answered before. You know, buildings, companies and even earthquakes have horoscope charts! If you can send me the exact date and time and place of incorporation of your business, I will run a chart and let you know what I see.

As for you,you have sun in virgo, mercury in scorp, venus in sag and mars in aquarius. You are genreally very practical and loyal, possessing a sharp mind. You are more platonic than sensual in love and are a great partner to your spouse - full of adventure and spark.

Possibly gemini rising which places pisces on the top of your chart. You need a career that is inspiring and spiritual where you feel that you truly make a difference. You can get that through law but probably in areas of law where you are helping those who cannot help themselves. Mars, the pllanet of action is enter that area of your chart on June 18 sparking change. But take things slowly - uranus, planet of surprises is also in your 10th hosue and will cause explosive changes that may be unintended.

Keep your eyes open and as well as your options and tread carefully for the next motnh or so.

Washington, DC: I am an Aries born 3/24/1947 at 11:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C. I am currently going through the retrograde. I am wondering what's in store for me regarding my love life and my current job as a secretary who works for Uncle Sam. I just started dating, again, several men. I am enjoying dating them all. Thus far, nothing special with any one of them. Also, I am a poet who has begun to do readings. What does the stars reveal about my poetry side?

Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Ah the second Saturn return! The returns arrive every 28 years or so for three years. Read more about the return at www.TheStarryEye.com on the zodiascope page.

The second return is a reappraisal of the first. WHat did you struugle with from ages 27-30? If you ahve learned your saturn lessons, you will reap the big rewards now. If you still have one or two things to finish up, Saturn will make you do so now.

You possibly have saturn in leo in your 8rh house and might have grappled with relationships of a deep and intense nature. You might have learned much more about yourself and your inner motivations.

Currently Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion is transiting that area of your chart so I would say that it can be alucky and/or expansive time for you.

Job? Things will start to ease in June as Saturn moves out of your 6th house of work. The worst may be over...

Poetry? Venus is currently in your 5th house of creativity so you feel particularly good about it now.But she moves on on the 11th and you may be more focused, happily, on your job for a while.

Hope that helps!

Brambleton, Va.: Hi Charlene,

Love the chats! How young do your readees have to be? My son and I sometimes go head to head and I'm wondering what insight you can give me about him that will help me better deal with his totally typical pre-schooler behaviors.

Also, for me in particular, are there any big events this summer that I should be aware of?

Me 7/28/69 Lancaster, Calif., 12:30 a.m.
Him 8/3/99 Fairfax, Va., 12:36 a.m.

Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: We can look at a newborn's chart but I don't recommend it because we do not want to push babies in a certain direction - best to let them develop on their own. But to know one or two placements may help them become more confident.

For children I give the topline essentials with little detail. Your son has sun in leo, mercury in cancer, venus in virgo and mars in scorpio. He is expansive and needs praise and attention. He is an emotional communicator and very loyal to those he loves. Cleanliness is important to him. When he takes action it is very carefully thought out to have a desired effect.Luck for him for the next two years will be among family and around the house. Challenges may be in the field of communication and elementary school - he may feel less confident and needs some support there.

Since you too may have taurus rising (as does your sun) your big events will be home related (good times), surprises among friends and social circles that you may in fact perpetuate. (Mars and uranus) and issues of communication.

Corbett, Ore.: Birthdate -- 05/05/1961
Ft. Campbell, Ky.
Time of birth -- I don't know.
Will I have a long life?

Charlene Lichtenstein: I cannot estimate life span but if you can give me your time of birth (maybe ask a relative) I can tell you how you might expect to feel when you get much older.

For example, I have scorpio on the cusp of my 4th house which means that I can anticipate being strong and alert and passionate when I am much older.

Cabin John, Md.: What are your impressions of local Visionary Activist and renowned astrologer, Caroline Casey -- and what do you think of her having once dated a conservative Republican?

Charlene Lichtenstein: I have never heard of her (sorry Caroline) but I will do a search on her and see if maybe I have come across her writings.

As for her choice of partners, I have no opinion. I have many relatives and good friends who are conservative Republicans! The discussions are enlivening!

New York, N.Y.: How compatible are pisces with geminis? My DOB is 2/20/50 at 5:30 a.m. in Suffern, N.Y. She was born on 6/6/65 at 2 p.m. in Rockville Center, N.Y.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Compatibility is more than just the sun sign - let's look at venus (the planet of love) the moon (emotions) and 7th house planets (relationship sector).

You have sun in pisces, moon in aries and venus in aquarius.
She has sun in Gemini, moon in virgo and venus is Gemini.
You two understand each other – your love natures are in sync. And the way you express love is well matched to her genreal personality. You are a bit more sensitive, generally and have to be careful of reading too much into things and feeling misunderstood. Generally speaking though, you two are well matched.

Washington, D.C.: Good Afternoon!

I haven't exactly been lucky in love lately. OK, there hasn't been ANY love lately and am hoping the stars will be lining up soon ... any chance?

DOB 7/22/69
Philadelphia, Pa.
11 a.m.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well, you have sun in cancer, moon in libra and venus in gemini. You are very sensitive and loving, seeking accord and balance emotionally. In love you can be flirtatious and love a meeting of the minds as much as anything.

Possibly virgo rising which places pisces on your 7th house of relationships. Mars is moving onto that area on Juen 18 so it is a good time to start looking. Expect some surprises and a great reassessment of who you are looking for as mars conjuncts uranus. Take your time and be discerning. There may be a chance that you will fall hard for someone who may not be worth it.

But you have a guardian angel with Jupiter in your 12th house. Luck from hidden sources!

Washington, D.C.: I apologize if you've gotten this question many times -- I tried to submit early but I'm not sure if it worked so here it goes. (You originally asked me for more information on this question about one month ago). My boyfriend abrubtly ended our 2-year relationship about six weeks ago. We met in Rome, Italy. I live in D.C., he lives in NJ. Our stats:
Me: 10/21/75, 2:30 a.m., Pittsburgh, Pa.
Him: 11/18/74, -3:30 p.m., Los Angeles, Calif.

Any hope for us to get back together (soon)?
Thanks much!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well it looks like both of your are in the middle of your Saturn returns. This is a three year period form apx ages 27-30 where we may feel frustrated and stressed. We want things NOW but they either do not manifest or if they do, they were not what we expected after all. This period is a time of change and learning. Read more about it at www.TheStarryEye.com on the zodiascope page.

I would sugges that you do not push this now and try to be patient. Things will begin to fall into place as each of you reaches 30.

Brooklyn, N.Y.: Brooklyn, N.Y. - 10-21-66
11:18 a.m. (New York City)

Help! Love the show. Can you please tell me what the recent and future sag moon mean for me.
I have a sag rising at 15 degrees. Nothing seems to be going my way.

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in libra and with Sag rising these emotional moons are makign you feel especially sensitive about new things (moon 23 degrees). Is it that things are not going your way or are you looking at things too emotionally?

Moons are all in our hearts and heads, not necessarily in reality.

Manassas, Va.: Charlene,

It's my birthday today! Yay. June 10, 1978. I'm a 25-year-old female born and raised in Manassas, Va. Curious about what the year might hold for me. Any insight for this birthday girl?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Happy Birthday!
You have sun in gemini, moon in leo, mercury in gemini, venus in cancer and mars in leo. You are bright and chatty with an open and generous heart. You are intellectual and love deeply and are very loyal in a relationship. You take action in a grand manner and can be very theatrical.

I wish I had your time of birth so I can tell you what to expect in certain areas of your life.

And next year, send me your information early and we can look at a solar return (birthday) chart. Maybe you can goose your luck by travelling on your birthday!

________________________________________________

Washington, D.C.: I have a question regarding transits aspecting natal charts. Specifically, my friend's natal Venus is in opposition to my natal Uranus, and you once told me that the aspect between the two charts would be affected by the planet that is aspecting it and the house it is in. So based on our birth data (especially his?), what do you think? Thanks!

Me - 3/13/68, 1:15 p.m. in Alexandria, Va.
Him - 2/18/67, 7:30 a.m in New Brunswick, N.J.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Do you two have great peaks (and valleys) in your relationship? Great emotional highs and lows? Lots of sparky connection? You two not only have this oppostion but it may be that your sun conjuncts his venus. You have sun in pisces and venus in aquarius, uranus in virgo. He has sun in aquarius, moon in gemini and venus in pisces.

Is your sun in his 1st or 12th house? If it is on the 12th, I would say there is a great deal of soul connection here.

As it is, you two are deeply connected but may find it a bit of a rollercoaster.
True?

________________________________________________

Fairfax, Va.: Hi, I was wondering whether you see anything in my chart that could shed some light on sparks that seem to be flying these days. Born 11/03/71, 8:32 a.m. in Flushing, N.Y.
Thanks so much. I enjoy reading your chats.

Charlene Lichtenstein: What type of sparks?
You have sun in virgo, venus in scorpio and mars in aquairus. Possibly libra rising which places sparky uranus in your 6th house of the job. A spark turns to a fire as mars conjunct uranus on Jun 18th.

Other hot areas - career as Saturn moves into your 10th house. Challenges for a couple of years - you will work hard, think you are not making anyheadway but you really are!

Pluto in your 3rd house now - your words change the landscape. Upheavels so be careful of what you say and how you say it.

Does that help?

________________________________________________

Follow-up ... : I understand the fragile 27-30 time period, but I am also interested in our compatibility should we make it through this turbulance?

Me: 10/21/75, 2:30 a.m., Pittsburgh, Pa.
Him: 11/18/74, 3:30 p.m., Los Angeles, Calif.

Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Okay-
You have sun in libra, moon in taurus and venus in virgo. You strive for harmony and are very diplomatic and sociable. You are an emotional rock and are very loyal in love (as well as a bit practical and earthy).

He has sun in scorpio, moon in cap and venus in scorpio. He is passionate, intense and a bit secretive. Demanding loyalty and needing closeness.

I would say that you two understand each other- you can give him the confidence he needs emotionally and are steadfast and true where he needs a sense of loyalty.

He can be a bit more serious than you- you are basically very lighthearted and fun. I see him as far more serious. Emotionally you two are in sync.

I hope that helps.

Burke, Va.: What do the eclipses and Saturn leaving my sign mean to my future? Will I have to move for my job or worse lose it, should I buy the property I think of buying, will my boyfriend leave to move back home to be close to his son. I'm all mixed up! HELP! Me: b. 6/3/1956, Charlottesville, Va. at 8:00 p.m. Boyfriend: b. 6/21/61, Watertown, Maine

Charlene Lichtenstein: Eclipses are times of emotional actions and reactions. Do not sign improtant papers during an eclipse, for example, because we are not seeing things clearly. Read more about eclipses on www.TheStarryEye.com on the zodiascope page.

Your saturn is in virgo. Saturn is currently leaving gemini and moving into cancer so I do not see saturn leaving your sign right now. But generally speaking saturn in your own sign require syou to do a bit of personal reassessment. When it moves on, saturn will enable you to work on other areas of your life!

I hope that helps.

Charlene Lichtenstein: We have run out of time and still have so many great questions left in the queue! Please try again next Monday night - June 16 at 6p and I will try to get to more of them.

Until next Monday night - happy stargazing!
