The Starry Eye Astrologer
Hosted by Charlene Lichtenstein
Special to washingtonpost.com

Rescheduled Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001; 6 p.m. EDT

What's your sign? Do you want to know what the planets and heavenly bodies have aligned this year -- in your career, in romance or surprises in your daily life? Tonight at 6 p.m. EST, "Madame" Lichtenstein, took your questions on sun signs, lunar influences and all things in the stars.

Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.

Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot.

Wondering how Mercury in retrograde affects your day-to-day life? What eclipses means for you and your loved ones? How to get in touch with your rising sign?

Below is a transcript.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, the washingtonpost.com celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a no holds barred discussion about astrology and the new age. Check out this month’s horoscope on www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope as well as articles on eclipses, void of course moons and Saturn Returns.

Starbite of the week:
“A Study Links Prayer and Pregnancy” is an article in the Oct 2, 2001 edition of the New York Times and in an article in the Journal of Reproductive Health. Researchers at an in vitro clinic in Korea had a higher pregnancy rate when, unknown to the patients, total strangers were asked to pray for their success. Women who were prayed for became pregnant twice as often as those who did not have people praying for them. These results were too significant to chalk up to chance. Earlier studies suggest that prayers by strangers can also help heart patients.

And now, what do you have to say? Please remember to include your birthdate time and place for all astrological readings.

Durham, N.C.: Dear Ms. Lichtenstein,

Happened upon your archives while on a studying break! Right now as a third year medical student, is there anything you can suggest from my birthdate (7.15.77 in Chapel Hill, N.C.) about medical fields which may suit my personality? Thank you!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to the show!

I wish you sent me your birth time in addition to your birthdate and place. With the birth time, I can calculate your rising sign (the sign on the cusp of the first house and the sign that was on the horizon at the time of your birth) and then ascertain what sign would be on your 10th house of career. Without your birth time, I can tell you your signs by planet but a fuller picture can be seen when we add the "houses" by sign.

You have sun (personality) and moon (emotions)in cancer , mercury (communication) in leo and venus (love) in gemini and mars (action) in taurus.

You are very nuturing (cancer) and caring which is very good for a doctor. Depending on your discipline, you may use your communication to command center stage (a surgeon) and your actions to be slow, careful and methodical (research, dermatology or pathology) the cancer ifluence suggests pediatrics.

Doctors often have to remove themselves emotionally from cases. Venus in gemini is more friendly than passionate.

I would love to see what sign is on your 10th house of career....

Does that help?

Washington, D.C.: For more than two weeks, bad things just keep happening (current events aside): health problems, car problems, several different new and unexpected problems with the house. Are we in some sort of bad planetary vortex? Any relief in sight?

me: 10-04-71
partner in bad luck: 2-13-71

Charlene Lichtenstein: Oh dear.
Well there is a bit of stress in the world now from the Pluto/Saturn oppostion. Saturn - planet of problems and stress forming an opposing energy to volcanic and possibly destructive Pluto.

Wherever these planets hit your personal chart will feel the bump. For that I would need your birth time in addition to your birthdate.

You have a great deal of air in your chart - sun, mercury and venus in libra, mars in aquarius and moon in aries. Saturn, the planet of problems, is retrograding in gemini which can impact your libra and aquarius planets. Saturn directs in early February so be prepared to go with the flow until then.

Also, you are just just finishing your Saturn Return so there still may be some reberverations from that. Read more about the return phase (from ages 27-30) at www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope

NW Washington, D.C.: I've noticed over the last month a huge increase in the attention I get from men. Not that I'm complaining, of course, but it just strikes me as odd that all of a sudden I've got more romantic entanglements than I can handle. I'm curious -- is there anything going on astrologically that would account for this change? I'm 4/6/76 at 4:38 p.m. in Kentucky.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well that can't be bad!
You have sun in aries, mercury in aries, venus in pisces, mars in cancer and possibly virgo rising which places capricorn in your 5th house of romance.

You have a very forthright and persevering personality but in love you are highly romantic, mushy and dreamy. Possibly idealizing your lovers a bit too much....

Jupiter, the planet of expansion and luck is opposing your 5th hosue now (sitting in your house of friends and large social groups - are you meeting people through friends or social organizations?) Jupiter brings luck but sometimes (especially when it is retrograde as it is now) too too much. Overwhelmingly so.

Also, if my topline calculations are slightly off, Pluto could be sitting in your 5th house too - volcanic, transformative and powerful.

These planets move slowly and eventually things will settle down. In the meantime, enjoy!

Fredericksburg, Va.: Hello. I love your show and always check in even if I don't have a question.

My birthdate is June 18, 1970 at 11:23 a.m. in Cheverly, Md. I am currently looking to build a new home with my husband of 8 years. His birthdate is Nov. 23, 1964 at 1:00 a.m. in Alexandria, Va. I am worried with everything going on in the world as to whether I should go forward with building this new house and moving. Do you think that it is a good time for me? Also, is there any insight that you could give me on my job? I have been working for the same employer for over 5 years, but feel stagnant. What do you see?

Thank you in advance.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well thank you!

I would rather not try to project world events and have been advising everyone to go on with their lives as best as they can. So I would like to answer your question strictly from your chart.

You have sun in gemini, moon in sag, mercury in gemini, venus in leo and mars in cancer. Possibly virgo rising which places sag on the cusp of your 4th house of home and family.

It seems like you are in a mindset of change - you have many "mutable" signs (sag, gemini) which are being aspected by volcanic Pluto. Pluto tends to brings change when we least expect it. And, pluto is sitting in your 4th house which indicates to me that there will be some change in your living arrangement. If you decide to build your house, check especially carefully around the pipes - pluto affects pipes, sewers, septic systems etc. The mucky inner workings.

This is a very topline assessment in a two minute answer on a live show, but I would hold off a bit in building a house. I would love to run your chart on the computer and give you a more detailed answer in the next week's show if you can resubmit and remind me.

With the job, you have saturn sitting in your 10th house of career indicating an irritation here. But I believe that in early Feb, as Saturn redirects, you will put all your past knowledge to work (Saturn is the great teacher) and either make your current job work better for you, or find a much better one.

Hope that helps.

Georgetown, Washington, D.C.: Birthdate:12/28/77 Birthplace: Albany, N.Y.

Here's the deal: I am supposedly a Cparicorn, but I feel that I have none of the qualities supposedly embodied in that sign. I am particularly unmotivated. And I am feeling unfulfilled in my career. So I need insight into my career path -- please help! Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: An unmotivated Capricorn???? Let's have a look!

I should note that in general, we tend to have personal planets in the sign before, in or after our sun sign so maybe you have several planets in sagittarius? Lets see -

You have sun in cap, moon in leo, mercury in sag, venus in zero degrees of cap - practically a sagittarian!, Mars in leo.

Yes you have a capricorn sun, but you are emotionally (moon) a leo, you fight like a leo (ever see a king of the jungle exert himself unless he is hungry?), and may even love like a sadge a bit.

If I had your birthtime, I could see what is on the cusp of your 10th house of career. But I would say that with the sag and leo and cap energy, you probably crave excitement, international influence, recognition for your efforts and something perhaps a bit status oriented or a bit powerful.

What do you do now?

Minneapolis, Minn.: Charlene: I turned 45 last Wednesday and my horoscope in the paper said: "November will feature change, travel and a variety of sensations. Social activities accelerate, domestic adjustment in December." Could you please take a look? I was born at 8:43 a.m. in Colorado Springs on 10/17/56. Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Happy birthday.
You are reading a general horoscope for libras. But you have moon in pisces, mercury in libra, venus in virgo and mars in pisces. Possibly scorpio rising which places much more emphasis this November on money issues, things or art and value.

You may also think about getting out there and meeting new folks, starting new projects (mercury is transiting your personal first house!) and maybe, as venus enters your first hosue on Nov 9, one of these new people will lead to a romantic adventure.

Travel, with retro Jupiter in your 9th house of travel, may be very exciting - maybe a bit too exciting. Even your home life, with transitng mars, will bring a bit of action to your surroundings.

Is that a bit better?

USA: Today is my birthday! I received a dozen roses already from my boyfriend. What else will I be receiving this year! I am a female born on Oct. 22, 1967 at 7:25 a.m. with 29 degrees of Libra rising and a 28-degree sun in the 12th house. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. I am thinking of writing a play for my master's thesis. Is this going to be a good year for this adventure? How about love?

Dear C.M. Thanks for answering!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Happy birthday!

With 29 degrees of Libra rising, you will get a happy zetz from transiting Uranus trining your ascendant. Surprises abound especially in early 2002. Sun in your 12th house is practiaclly in your first house of new beginnings. I see this to be a very busy and surprising year.

Jupiter is transitng your 10th house - expansion in your career - you are pushed into the limelight. Travel may be more trouble than it is worth with retro saturn transiting you 9th house.

One question though - were you in Brooklyn on your birthday? There is the thought that you can change your horoscope for the year by travelling on your birthday - not being in your place of birth on that day. My prognosis may be a little different if you were in a different city than your birth city on your birthday.

The concept of traveling for your solar return is still be tested. But it is very interesting....

Southern Maryland:: Hi, Madam and all planet fans:

I know about the Saturn Returns phenomenon and it's supposed to teach us something. Since I'm just a dabbler in the astrology field I don't know how particular planets and houses influence us. I do know Saturn at the time of my birth was in Leo, 10th house. Birth info is: Nov. 13, 1946, at 3:30 a.m. in Baltimore, Md. I am a single female.

Can you tell me what Saturn in Leo and the 10th house means for me? What am I supposed to be learning from this?

Many thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Ah your second saturn return! Welcome!

What happened in your life during your first return? (ages 27-30). The second return is usually a culmination of the first. If you have any stray lessons to finsih up, this is the time! If you have worked hard, did what you were supposed to do, this is a time of great reward and reaping what you have sown.

Saturn in Leo in the 10th.... does it aspect other planets in your chart? That will come into play. But I would say that recognition in your profession would be one manifestation. How to give and receive, how to position yourself in an exalted community or in power circles. How others see you from afar.

Hmmm you hlso have pluto in leo - dramatic changes. Has your career undergone volcanic changes? How have you managed them?

Does this help?

Fairfax, Va.: Good evening,

I recently entered the high technology field (which I enjoy very much). However, I'm not sure that my current job is right for me -- I feel uneasy. Could you tell me if this is a transitory phase, "new job jitters," or did I pick the wrong job? I was born 1/27/65, 8:00 a.m., in Japan.

Thank you!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well, you have sun in aquarius, moon in sag, mercury in capricorn, venus in cap, mars in virgo. Possibly pisces rising.

Aquarians love high tech so, generally (personality - wise) you are in a compatible field for your psyche. With mercury and venus in capricorn, you may feel more comfortable in standard (acceptable), more conservative thinking processes and relationships. Mars in virgo indicates that you love to help people, work hard and like to see concrete results.

If you have Pisces rising (my charts are for the eastern time zone so it may be a little off), you currently have transformative Pluto and the optimistic sun transiting your career sector. This brings both hope and a feeling of impending change. Later in November ( around the 27th) mercury enters this area of your chart and you will find yourself thinking more and more about your career path. I suspect you will know by the end of November if this is the job for you. Wait for Mercury to whisper the right answer to you.

Washington, D.C.: Hello Madame!

Really excited to converse with you. Might not be able to be a part of this weeks show, so I wanted to submit my question early. My birth date is 01/27/64 at 12:50 p.m. and the love of my life is 03/06/67 at 7:30 a.m. We have such a great connection. It's like a dream come true. Is this just my imagination or a love of a lifetime? Thank you!

Charlene Lichtenstein: An early question! Let's get to it before it is too late-

Your love has sun in romantic pisces, moon in practical capricorn and venus in robust aries.

You have sun in independent aquarius, moon in caring cancer and venus in romantic pisces.

There is a great deal of connection between the two of you - your sun meshes well with his venus (the way he expresses love). Your moon (emotions) and venus (how you express love) are well aspected to his sun and moon.

You have taurus rising which places scorpio on your 7th house of relationships. His pisces sun trines your 7th house cusp - a wonderful, basic connection.

I hope this helps!

Fairfax, Va.: Hi. I'm a Sagittarious born 12/5/77 at 3:40 p.m. I don't see myself as a true Sag, and I think I might have more Scorpio qualities. Could that be?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Possibly - we tend to have planets in signs before during and after our sun sign. Let's check your planets - you have sun in sag, mercury in capricorn, venus in one degree of sag (so possibly scorpio if I were to run this on the pc) and mars in leo. Taurus rising.

Hmm, I would say that you are a more conservative and introspective sag but not as scorpio as you might think. You think like a capricorn - conservative and careful but you fight like a proud and regal leo.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Yikes! We have run out of time - it flies by!

Thank you all for your great questions. If I could not get to yours, please try again next Monday, October 29th at 6pm on my next show.

In the meantime, happy stargazing!!
