Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Good afternoon Chat House peeps. Wilbon is on the road so he'll be joining us via phone. TK is here and he'll jump in after 2. Let me dial up Mike and get him so hang on one sec. --Mary

Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Wilbon is in Chicago and I have this sinking feeling that he forgot about the chat today. I'm still trying to track him down..... but Tony is here and will save the day, again. --Mary

Tony, how many more games does Spurrier have left as a Redskins coach?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: He says it is his intention to go at least 3 years and then make a decision. At the moment, most people are looking at the under. But just for the record, I supported Spurrier being hired and I support him remaining as coach. I am not a "gutless wonder" like some other. I may be wrong, but I thought he was a great choice. --Tony

Hartford, CT:
How many games before Patrick Ramsey gets broken in half?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: They have 2 pro Bowl tackles in Jansen and Samuels. If they can't protect Ramsey, who stays in the pocket, then cut them and get someone who can. Ramsey shouldn't have to be broken in 1/2 b/c of an incomptent offensive line. --Tony

In the pantheon of seven-game series in all sports, have the Cubs just given us the most memorable collapse of all time after gaining a 3-1 series lead? I venture a yes. Sixers v. Celtics in '82 comes to mind for second place. And, Cub fans, let's remember who came back the next year to win the NBA title.
Steve Bartman will be remembered. The Cubs jinx will be remembered. A surehanded shortstop booting a routine grounder will be remembered.
Will anyone remember that the NL's two most highly touted aces gave up 5 and 7 runs respectively? The Marlins extraordinary bats and Josh Beckett won this series, hands down. (It hurts so bad to admit that.)
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Thanks. Next week, it's your show. --Tony

Was Game 7 of the ALCS the best baseball game you ever seen? It was such a thrill to be there!
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: It was not the best game I've ever seen. It was a very good game. And congrats on your good fortune to have been there. --Tony

Mr. Tony and Mr. Mike: Watching the Giants/Eagles debacle yesterday, it occurred to me in the 3rd quarter - here's two mediocre teams, both of whom have beaten the Skins. How/why have the Skins regressed so much in the past weeks? Sure, the opposition may have improved, but that doesn't explain the continuing mistakes and penalties. Thanks.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: I don't know. I thought they were much better on offense this year. And I thought their defense was passable. They have clearly regressed. The last 6 quarters they have played, they've stunk. I have no answer for that. But I can't help but notice that the Dallas Cowboys have gotten so much better under Bill Parcells. I'm sure Wilbon has all the answers. Why don't you call him? --Tony
He's not answering. --Mary

What do you predict the Redskin's record will be by the end of the season?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: The schedule is impossibly hard. I think 8 wins would be great. I suspect they are looking at 6-10 right now. --Tony

So, have you been watching these baseball games that have gone to 11 p.m.and even midnight? Which was the better series: NLCS or ALCS? I say AL because of that long rivalry between the Yanks and Sox.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: I stayed up as long as I can, which admittedly is not until the end of all of the games. But I am very happy for the resurgence in the interest in baseball and very pleased that people have come to appreciate that good baseball can come to produce tension on literally every pitch which is never the case in basketball and rarely the case in football. Norman Chad is here now and Norman Chad is suggesting that I sound like I have been lobotimized. This from a person who spends most of his waking hours watching poker being played where if you actually made a sound during the hand, four of the five people at the table wold take out concealed weapons and shoot you. --Tony
I'm not even here. --Norman Chad

Good afternoon, guys. Just wondering what yout take is on the steroid derivative scandal? The Dubin inquiry after our Ben Johnson scandal in Seoul had a serious impact on how we view athletics and the need to participate cleanly. Will this force the American sporting establishment to do the same? Mark Ramage
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: I don't understand the steroid thing. I only understand this: that athletes of all shapes, sizes and sexes will take ANYTHING, repeat ANYTHING that someone tells them will make them bigger, faster and stronger. Am I making myself clear? They will take ANYTHING that promises that. If you told an athlete that some new drug would be undetectable in a steroid test, they would throw it down like M&Ms!--Tony

Tony and Michael, I will would like to hear both of your thoughts on the NBA. In light of newest NBA drama (Kobe Bryant), do you feel that the NBA will take a second look at their decision to draft kids prior to having a collegiate experience?
Thank You
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: What possible relevance to Kobe Bryant'situation now is the fact that he didn't go to college? He is now 7 yrs out of high school. Are you trying to suggest that if he had gone to college he wouldn't be charged in a rape case? That's nuts. The NBA can hardly use Kobe as a reason to ask for no high school players being drafted. --Tony

With the Terps on a five game winning streak in football, if they beat Georgia Tech Thursday and continue to go unbeaten the rest of the season, at what point will they be ranked again?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: The #2 team in the ACC always gets ranked. There should be 3 ACC teams in the top 25 and Maryland could get as high as 10 or 12 by the end of the year if they win out. --Tony

Oh, no!!!!! you mean he's on Central time!
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: LOL. Yeah, probably. Tony had to fly so let me try to track down Wilbon again in the Windy City. --Mary

So what do you guys think of Tom Sietsema's new
star rating system for restaurants? He's getting
hammered in his chat.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: I think he's a pro and he knows what he's doing. --Mary

I know this chat is about the Redskins. But I must vent my continued frustration with the Post and its lack of coverage of DC United and the MLS. There is not one story about yesterday's heartbreaking overtime loss in their bid to get into the playoffs. I hope you will forward this note to the sports editor or whomever can make a change to the coverage of this 3-time champion local professional team.

Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: We will post this for you in the hope that it helps vent your frustration. --The Chat House

So, what is life going to be like for Bartman if he chooses to stay in the Windy City? I'd say it would make a great reality TV show: have a camera crew follow Bartman around as he tours Chicago-area sports bars. How long would he last? Survivor-Chicago!
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: God, that would be awful. --The Chat House

OK, so the Skins suck, the Caps suck, the Bulle--I mean, Wizards--will suck, and we don't even have a Baseball team to suck (but the Senators did suck before Bob Short pulled the plug). Even my favorite NASCAR driver is sucking this year (88). I gotta go all the way to college lacrosse for any hope at all. Since I am unable to switch allegances, what should I do. I need expert help. Please.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Move to New York? College lax should be decent down there in the 'Ville. And at least the Hoos football team is playing good ball even though they lost on Sat.--Mary

Mary,
Who do you think will win the World Series?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Probably the Yankees, but I'm hoping for the Marlins. --Mary

Any thoughts on ESPN.com getting rid of Gregg Easterbrook's Tuesday Morning Quarterback column because of remarks he made in a column on another Web site? Seems like overkill to me.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Tony is back and will finish up the show b/c Wilbon is still MIA. --Mary
I have no idea who Gregg Easterbrook is. I think there are far too many Web sites now including this Web site. I think you people who spend more than 1 hr a day looking at Web sites should be transformed into giant bugs and crows should fly over and eat you. Are you happy now? --Tony
Welcome back. --Mary

Wasington, D.C.:
Tony, do you think The Ball Coach might start taking Ramsey out early just to protect the club's future. The Skins might (finally) have a decent year in year out QB, something they haven't had since Theisman. While good offensive linemen are not a dime a dozen, they are easier to find than a decent QB. If the O-line debacle contines, should we see more play by Johnson until the line gels?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: If you thnk Ramsey is your best QB, you play him. You don't hold him out until you get better linemen b/c that may never happen. But you need to remember, Ramsey is only in his 2nd year and he's not very good yet. You only get better by playing. --Tony

Mr. Kornheiser,
Has the curse of Les Boulez come earlier than usual with the injury to Jerry Stackhouse? Do you think Kwame Brown will be the man to finally break this curse and build this team upon, or will he be a bust?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: It's hard for me to believe that Les Boulez agreed to a 33 million dollar extension w/out examining him first. Kwame Brown is a bust right now. If he's still a bust by the end of the season, they will trade him. --Tony

Tony: Since Anna Kournikova is looking to get into broadcasting/acting, have you considered a position as a "special correspondent" on PTI for her? Stat Girl, maybe? Or maybe she could sit between you and Mike; she may not be able to get a word in, but she will definitely raise the aesthetic value of the show.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Wilbon would like that. He loves her. I don't want her on the set, but I'm sure it would boost the ratings. English is not her first language and she's really not that good at it yet. So, I'd hold off on making her the next Katie Couric. --Tony

In the spirit of questions today, how long before Notre Dame gives Ty Willlingham the boot? Those of us up here in Ann Arbor hope he stays forever.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: They are not going to give him the boot. They don't give anyone the boot until the end of their contracts, do they? The guy was great last year. How come you want to fire him already? --Tony

Silver Spring, MD:
Is Wilbon still depressed about the Cubs? Is that why he hasn't shown up today?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: He must be. Yeah. --Mary

Since this has turned into your chat, any more dates from hell lately?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: No, I'm engaged so I am out of the shark pit. --Mary

One person ask me to swop him my remaining season tickets for Britney Spears tickets.
Can you believe that I'm actually thinking about it after watching their performance yesterday.
What would you do?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Did you see her on Saturday Night Live this past Sat? Ouch. Tough call. Okay, clearly Wilbon forgot or is in hiding in Chicago. I'll make sure he's here next week. Sorry he wasn't here today. I had no warning. Have a good one and thanks to Tony for running the show today. --Mary
