Colorado Springs, Colo.:
Guys, my take: Limbaugh was cowardly for dropping a "stink bomb" of a comment, then running away like a punk before the rebuke came. What do you think?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Hi everyone. Sorry we are late. This computer I'm working is super slow. It took 10 mins to load it up. Okay. Tony is going to start. TK? --Mary
Limbaugh was fired. He didn't quit. I don't think he was cowardly. I think he was hired to be Rush Limbaugh and nothing he said or did was inconsistent w/that. Where he made his mistake was in failing to appreciate the vast difference between TV and radio. In radio, people tune in for the host and they like the host overwhelmingly. In TV, they tune in for the show. And when you make an asinine comment on a show, people are appalled. --Tony

How can a player of Chris Samuels caliber allow Simeon Rice four sacks in one game? What adjustments can the Redskins possibly make to protect Ramsey?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Chris Samuels may not be the caliber you think. He had a pro-bowl season a couple of years ago, but he's had a bunch of false starts this year and Simeon beat him to death. The easiest adjustment they can make to help Ramsey not get killed is to trade him to Tampa Bay. --Tony

Granted the Redskins, can't seem to call an audible without getting a false start, but I think the Redskins should occasionally use a no-huddle offense. I mean they have become pros at the two minute drill these last five weeks, why not see if they can score any points before the game is about the end. They sure had the Eagles on their heels at the end of that game with the no-huddle.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: The no huddle isn't going to work if Spurrier is continually calling audibles b/c it still gives them the same limited amount of time to set the offense. It's not about the play calling. If the linemen are incapable of holding their positions, GET NEW LINEMEN. --Tony

Hey guys,
I often hear/read disagreements over what is most important in a defense, stopping the run, or pressuring the quarterback. Which is it? Clearly the Skins Dline has been effective at stopping the run, but not pressuring the QB, and look where this team is right now.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: I have no idea which is more important. The most important thing is to win the game. As Herman Edwards soeloquently puts it "we play to win the game." --Tony

Wasn't yesterday's game just the result of the Bucs' offense getting uncharacteristically hot (and lucky) at the right time?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: They have a pro-bowl QB (who Wilbon ran out of town here) who has a wonderful ratio of completions to attempts and they went down the field effortlessly. I know you want to suggest that they have no offense. But, it's not so. In McCardell and Keyshawn, they have terrific receievers. And if the Redskins allow Johnson to bootleg at will, they are going to give up 35 pts every time. --Tony

London, U.K.:
Not a question but a comment regarding the Pedro-Zim flap: Pedro was well within his rights to defend himself. If you ask me, the entire affair was just a tempest in a teapot, whatever that means.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: How is Pedro supposed to react when a guy in an opposing uniform comes charging at him w/murderous intent? Is he supposed to cut Zimmer's torso open and count the rings to see that he is 72 yrs old? Look. Pedor matadored the guy to the ground, then didn't hit him or set on him or beat him. I thought Pedro showed restraint, though in hindsight, it is unseemly and Pedro should acknowledge the unfortunate nature of the incident and his own poor behavior. --Tony

Tulsa, Okla.:
Is there any doubt that Oklahoma is the best team in College Football and that Bob Stoops is the second coming of Bud/Barry or that Jason White is the leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Well, Oklahoma can still loose a game in the Big 12. Oklahoma and Miami look better than the other teams, but undefeated seasons are infrequent. You must be a big Sooners' fan. --Tony

I am absolutely, utterly, completely, shaking-in-my-boots terrified to put any hope into the Wizards season. That said, I just made a bet that they would win 10 more games this season than last. I'm a moron, and its impossible to know much of anything this early. That said, is there anything encouraging anyone's seen at practices or pre-season games that could ease mny shaking booties? thanks.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: You say "that said" a lot. That said, the Wizards stink. I think that they could win 10 more than last year-- no 5 more than last year. They could also win 5 less. What's the difference. --Tony

Don Zimmer -- warrior or idiot?
Bullpen guy -- passionate fan or Red Sox plant?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Hi everyone. Mike here. Don Zimmer. Warrior AND idiot. If you are going to charge out there and take a run at someone and attempt to take a swing at somebody, then you'd better expect to be charged back at and attacked in kind. The onus isn't on Pedro to check Zim's AARP card before dealing w/this idiot. He should have dropped him w/one punch. Old fool runs out to attack somebody and then gets thrown to the ground. The only bigger idiots than Zim are the people attacking Pedro. Pedro would have been justified if he had gone into Bruce Lee mode and tried to behead Zim. A guy now has to passively defend himself from some onrushing zealot? If Zim, as Matt at PTI smartly points out, was so offended as the sight of anyone throwing at anyone else's head b/c of his own violent beaning 50 years ago, then why didn't he rush out after Roger Clemens a few years ago when Rocket damn near killed Mike Piazza in July 2000.... you got me going..... I don't know exactly what happened in the bullpen situation, though I think the guy who started antagonzing the Yankees' pitchers should have been beat down, too. There are too many idiots in the world charging people and starting stuff w/out serious repercussions. --Mike

Tampa, Fla.:
Greetings Gents.
I think Brad Johnson proved yesterday that he's truly one of the NFL's premier QBs. I lived in D.C. when Johnson QB-ed for the Skins and I remember the media -- I think it was you, Mike -- saying he had a "dead arm" and was finished. Would it have made any difference at all the last few years for the Skins to have had Brad at QB?
(By the way, there's a reason why Tampa let the "Other Johnson" go -- he stinks as a QB and he proved it late in the game yesterday.)
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: I never said Brad Johnson had a dead arm. I ripped him for throwing 4 interceptions one day and saying "we" instead of "I." QBs don't get to say "we" when they screw up. Only when it comes to sharing the credit. That's the only time I ripped Brad Johnson and I will do the same thing if a veteran QB gave the same excuse after a bad performance. --Mike

I disagree about what happened physically on the Pedro/Zim thing. Pedro merely pushed him aside -- it was Zim's momentum and no doubt those gimpy knees that caused him to tumble and roll.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: You agree w/me. It's not like Pedro did a Sunny Liston on the old fool. He took it easy on Zim. PLEASE. --Mike

Why does Lavar Arrington seem to be the only one fired up on this Redskin team? If the whole team played as intense as him, maybe they could win some more games? What should Spurrier do?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: That's a good question. That's a legit question. Maybe they need a guy like Pudge Rodriguez on the Redskins. I'm w/you. Maybe there ought to be some more fire... not Rah-Rah junk that's just for show. But genuine emotion that reveals itself in the way you need to play on Sunday, particularly on defense. But, maybe if we put this to some guys at Redksins park, they would say they are not demonstrative. --Mike

College Park, Md.:
Do you think the Redskins have what it takes to make the playoffs this season looking at their schedule?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: No. I picked the Redskins to go 8-8 and there is no reason to change now. I don't think the Redskins can go and win at Carolina and at Miami and at the NY Giants and at the Cowboys. --Mike

Chicago, Ill.:
Mr. Wilbon, you're a member of the NFL's Hall of Fame selection committee, maybe you can explain to me why we never see Stanley Morgan's name among the list of nominees? This year, Wesley Walker is on the list of preliminary nominees, and his numbers pale in comparison to the Steamer's. Their careers coincided almost perfectly, yet Stanley caught 120 more balls for 2,400 more yards, and he played in two more Pro Bowls than Walker. What gives?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Stanley Morgan probably came up for discussion long before I was a member of the selection committee so I can't speak to Mr. Morgan's specific numbers and compare them to other upcoming candidate. But now that you mention him, I'll go back and look at it. Still, there are guys who as they say "slip between the cracks." And this is why they have come up w/a veteran inductee....but you raise a question I'm going to have to research. --Mike

Hey guys,
Is it too early to give Parcells the Coach of the Year award? Any ideas about what he's doing to get so much more out the Cowboys than they have displayed in the last three years?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Yes. Suppose Dick Vermeil goes undefeated. Or suppose Mike Tice goes undefeated. Or supposee Dungy or Shanahan leads a team to 15-1 while the Cowboys end up 10-6 or 9-7. All these dicussions are wonderful, but it's too early. --Mike

Silver Spring, Md.:
Do you think the Cowboys are really good or is it just that they play a soft schedule?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: I think the Cowboys are pretty good. I think they are as good as anybody in the NFC East. And they are only going to get better as they play longer for Parcells and as they get better at what they are doing. --Mike

OK admit it Mike, how tough has it been to stay in your chair knowing the Cubs are this close?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: VERY, VERY, VERY difficult. I'm on pins and needles. I'm a basket case, just like every other Cub fan. But thank you for asking. Now, I'll go back to throwing up. --Mike

Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: He got fired okay? He didn't quit. OKAY? --Tony

Rockville, Md.:
Does the offensive scheme really have that many holes that open up lanes for pass rush or are blockers just getting beat?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: I think you have to have a great offensive line if you want to put 5 receivers into the pass pattern. And the Redskins don't have a a great offensive line. So, maybe they will have to use a TE more or get a big back in there to help out. Joe Gibbs did that all the time.He sacrificed a pass receiver or two to protect his QB. He called it "max protect." --Mike

Washington, D.C.:
Buffalo looks really vulnerable after yesterday's loss to the Jets. If the 'Skins can win next week, are they in a good position for a possible wild card berth, or NFC East Champs?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Yeah, you're right Buffalo looks vulnerable, but so do the Redskins. And the game is in Buffalo. So, don't start looking for "false keys" as the coaches say. --Mike

Wilbon was right about Brad:
Mike -- You were absolutely right about Brad Johnson. He is perfect for a West Coast, dink and dunk pass offense. If we all remember, he could not effectively throw the deep ball that was required for Norv Turner's offense. That's why the Skins let him go.
I'm with you on this one Wilbon
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Thank you. It's called good coaching. Gruden understands how to best to use Brad. More power to both of them. Brad was perfect yesterday. Absolutely perfect w/half of his offensive weapons injured. --Mike

Washington, D.C.:
Go back and look at the tape again. Pedro didn't "push" or "shove" Zimmer to the ground. He put his hands on Zimmer's ears (big enough targets that anyone could reach) and wrestled Zimmer head-first into the ground.
Pedro wants to show how much of a man he is, he could have gone after someone who wasn't over twice his age. But I guess you view his heroic self-defense differently.
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Good. He threw him down. Good. I wish he punched him in the nose in a nice combination. I wish he had gone Steve Austin on him. Stone Cold. You run out there, that's what you deserve. --Mike

The Redskins still have problems with penalties. Is this just something the players have to work out for themselves, or is it also a coaching issue? What, in particular, can a coach do to get his players to stop hitting people out of bounds, jumping offsides, and so on?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon: Cut people. Make somebody a sacrifical lamb. Or bench people. Take away their playing time. That's the one thing that gets pro players who often have incentives. --Mike

TONY - WHATS UP WITH THE SITCOM. I HEAR COSTANZA IS PLAYING YOU. HOW DID YOU GET SOMEONE SO MUCH BETTER LOOKING TO PLAY YOU?
Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon:
It was between him and Brad Pitt. Pitt said he had other commitments so we are stuck w/Costanza. I'm excited. --Tony
