With Noah Brindise
Assistant Quarterbacks Coach
Friday, Nov. 22, 2002; 3 p.m. EDT
How is the team's mood after losing to the New York Giants? Who should Coach Spurrier put in the quarterback spot next Sunday? Where do the Redskins need to improve if they want to beat the Rams?
Noah Brindise, a quarterback coach for the Washington Redskins, was online to discuss the team, Sunday's game and the season.
The transcript follows.

Noah Brindise: Hello everybody, thanks for joining me. Last weeks game was definately dissapointing for all of us. All I can ask is that you keep believing that we will get it going. Now I am ready for your questions!
Somewhere, USA:
The ball coach is beginning to take criticism, not only for his game plans but for the way he's handled the quarterback situation. Given what he has to work with, I don't blame him for shuffling the position to try to find a way to win -- but it's pretty unconventional. Your thoughts?
Noah Brindise: It is ceratinly not conventional, but it has been successful for him before. He used this approach for many years at Florida and hopefully it will have the same results here. Like you said, we are trying to find ways to win games, maybe this will work.
Gulf Breeze, Fla.:
Hey Noah, how is Dannys arm/throws looking this week?
Noah Brindise: Danny has had a great week of practice and has given me a very good reason to be excited about sunday. His shoulder seems to be all healed up and he really has been sharp all week.
Richmond, Va.:
If the Skins beat the Rams is it plausible
that they will win all the other games
including the one against the Eagles in
which McNabb is hurt?
Noah Brindise: Ceratinly that is our goal. We have six games left and we are trying to win all six of them. With 4 division games remaining anything can still happen. We aren't giving up!
Reston, Va.:
How similar is the current Skins offense to the Gator offense that you learned at University of Florida?
Noah Brindise: Right now, from a results standpoint, it doesn't look very similar does it? As far as scheme, there are alot of similarities but we have had to tweak some things to fit our personnel and the style of play here in the NFL. We are trying to find out what we are really good at. Obviously we should have given the run more of a chance the last few weeks. But as we all know, you can't just run the ball up and down the field in the NFL. If it was that easy, everyone would do it. Our offense is at it's best when we are balanced. That is what you will hopefully see on sunday.
Westfield, N.J.:
Noah,
Just wanted to say that as a Gator I enjoy following your career and wish you best of luck. I was wondering if you think Coach Spurrier overestimated the talent that was on the roster in Washington. Maybe you guys can draft Rex next year.
Take care
Noah Brindise: I appreciate the words. It's always good to hear from a Gator. I really can't answer the question about Coach overestimating the talen, I am really not sure. As far as Rex goes, he is going to be an unbelievable NFL QB one day but remember he is only a junior!
Mt. Rainier, Md.:
Do you have your eye on any particular quarterback in the league to back up Ramsey next year?
Noah Brindise: Haven't looked ahead that far yet. Any suggestions?
Silver Spring, Md.:
It seems like pretty soon Washington will become the least favorite place for pros to play due to Spurrier's game by game mentality. I mean one day you're a top receiver, next day you're cut from the team. One day "he's our QB", the next day he drops to #3 in the depth chart. I've heard about players' coaches, but is Spurrier the complete other end of the spectrum?
Noah Brindise: Who are you referring to as a "Top Receiver"?
Falls Church, Va.:
C'mon... we want Ramsey. When is this going to happen?
Thanks and we luv ya...
Noah Brindise: He has worked very hard and is close to being ready to go, he just needs some good experience. I know, how is he going to get experience without playing, right. Well, We are trying to win as many games as we can right now. If and when we think Patrick is ready to help us win games he will be the guy.
Fairfax, Va.:
What have you seen in Danny Weurfel in the past 6 weeks to put him in the starting job?
Is this decision based on Mathews' performance, because I feel like putting Danny in indicates a mood of desperation.
Noah Brindise: Well, we are trying desperately to win games! Shane has struggled recently, but as coach said it isn't all his fault. Danny has worked very hard to come back from his shoulder injury and has never really gotten the chance to play a full game. We will see what he can do this week.
Somewhere, USA:
So what are you doing this week to fix last week's problems?
Noah Brindise: Practicing on what we haven't done real well. It ain't rocket science, my man.
Blacksburg, Va.:
Noah,
Lets cut to the chase. What kind of quarterback can Ramsey truly be? Does he have what it takes to succeed in the NFL in your opinion? He double-majored at Tulane and graduated a semester early, it seems he has the gray-matter required, isn't he the 'Skins best shot right now? What's the deal with Danny Wuerffel starting?
Go 'Skins!
Noah Brindise: I think I have answered this question about five times already on other posts, but as for your question about Patrick we certainly feel like he can be a great player in this league. He has all the talent, and as you mentioned, is a very smart young man. The sky is the limit for his future.
Washington, D.C.:
What do you think of the Post's coverage of the Skins? Do you find it fair?
Noah Brindise: To be honest with you, I haven't read a thing about our team in the newspapers for quite a while. As a coach you have to try and keep an even keel throughout the season. I am sure that it is preety fair for the most part. But you alwways have a writer or two, not necessarily from this paper, who like to create crap. That is the nature of this business.
Somewhere, USA:
Hey Noah, thanks for doing these chats. If you weren't coaching football what would you be doing?
Noah Brindise: That is a great question. I think no matter what I was doing it would have to be sports-related. I have always been into athletics. It is about all I know!
Arlington, Va.:
Who is the most underrated player on the Skins?
Noah Brindise: That is a tough question. I would have to say on offense it has got to be Larry Moore, our center. He has played very well for us this year and rarely gets mentioned by any of the writers.
Washington, D.C.:
Noah, any comments about the rumblings of some of the players about the way Steve's been calling plays? Are you concerned?
Noah Brindise: Any time you lose games there are going to be rumblings, it's the nature of the business. All we can do is try to fix what is broken and move forward. I know that sounds like coachspeak but it is the truth.
Desperate:
I also think the QB change is a desparate move, this being the case, might as well risk it all and give Ramsey a chance. It's not like Danny (with all due respect) has shown anything outstanding. In my humble opinion Danny and Patrick are at the same spot and for that reason I'd go with Patrick due to his arm, give him some experience. What do you think?
Noah Brindise: You make valid arguements, there is no question about it. Danny has not had a whole game to play from start to finish, however, and Patrick has. Let's rally behind Danny and give him our full support, sound good to everybody? We all want to win and positive attitudes can sometimes be the difference.
Washington, D.C.:
Just want you to know we're pulling for you -- Coach is a very likeable, stand-up guy.
Noah Brindise: Thank you very much. We are trying to win games for all of you wonderful fans out there. And you are correct about Coach, he is a stand-up guy.
Annandale, Va.:
Hey Noah,
Hopefully we will run a lot more this weekend knowing that this has helped us win in the past more than the passing game.
Also, will coach Lewis let Arrington be a little more free on defense so he can be more effective? He's definetly the one to do it.
Noah Brindise: We are certainly going to try and run the ball more, no question about it. I don't know what Coach Lewis has planned for Lavar. I just know I am happy he is on our team!
Germantown, Md.:
When did everybody start calling Steve Spurrier "the ball coach?" I've been a Redskins fan since about 1966, and I've only heard the term in the last few days, it seems. But suddenly there it is at the top of the chat from Somewhere, USA. Is this a conspiracy?
Noah Brindise: At Florida, he was referred to as the "Head Ball Coach". Or HBC for short. I guess it just evolved from that.
Alexandria, Va.:
Now it is time to put you on the spot. Are we going to make it to the playoffs this year?
Noah Brindise: We have six games left, if we win them all we will be in the playoffs. Every one we don't win lessens our chances.
Manassas, Va.:
Noah,
You are named after a famous biblical Ark builder. If you had to choose two players from the NFC and two from the AFC, who would you pick?
Noah Brindise: Tough question. I will answer it next week. You have to give me some time on that one.
Noah Brindise: Take care everyone. Like I said earlier, let's all give our full support to Danny Wuerffel this week. I think if everybody stays positive throughout the game we will be very happy with the results. We can beat the Rams, remember that. Have a great week everyone and stay safe!
