Noah Brindise: Good afternoon everyone. Thanks for joining me for this weeks chat.
Burke, Va.:
Honestly do you think Redskins can make it to playoffs this season. My assumption is we have to go atleast 4-1 in 5 of the remaining division games and and atleast 1-1 in other games. What do you say?
Noah Brindise: I agree with your numbers. Realistically, we have a very good chance to go if we can win 5 or 6 of our last seven. I think ten wins gets us in for sure. Remember, we still can win the eastern division which gives us an automatic bid no matter what our record is.
Washington, D.C.:
Hi Noah,
Let me begin by saying that I admire you for the work you are doing, to get the best of this team. I am a huge Redskins Fan and and speak for the masses when I say I am frustrated. Shane Matthews may be a nice person, but there is a reason he has never had startling success in the NFL (prior to coming here). What are the chances we are going to trade on the offseason to upgrade the quarterback position. It pained to see us lose to Mark Brunell, someone I understood we could have had. And I won't even say the name Drew Bledscoe in my house.
I'd love to hear your reaction.
Noah Brindise: We are frustrated also! We feel like right now Shane gives us the best chance to win. In the off-season we will worry about all the other stuff. Right now our job is to try and win as many games as we can with THIS team and THIS quarterback.
Kingstowne, Va.:
How does it feel to watch ex-Redskins quarterbacks having pro-bowl seasons with other teams? Granted, Jeff George and Gus Frerotte ain't doing much. But Trent Green, Brad Johnson and especially Rich Gannon are flourishing. I can't imaging how good my beloved 'skins would be with Gannon at the helm under yours and Coach Spurrier's tutelage.
Noah Brindise: I didn't know Rich Gannon ever played for the Skins. They are all having great years- you are right about that. If you look at the records of the teams that those three play for our record is right there with them.
Washington, D.C.:
Who will start as quarterback this Sunday?
Noah Brindise: Shane
Bethesda, Md.:
Are we gonna turn things around Noah?!?!?
Noah Brindise: I would like to say that we are going to "put it all together". Turning things around to me means that we are in really bad shape, which we are not. We need to put it all togeteher for these last 7 games. Our offense has shown signs of playing very well, and at other times played terribly. Our hope is that we find a comfort zone for these last 7 games and make a run at the Eastern division and a playoff berth. Nobody around here is giving up, I can assure you of that.
Alexandria, Va.:
What's your football background? How did you get your current job? Did you even play in high school, college or the pros?
Noah Brindise: I won a color the redskin picture contest in the Washington Post. What do you think? Check out a media guide if you want bio information or else ask nicely and maybe I will give it to you.
Redskins Territory:
I think that we are still in a good position to make the playoffs. But lets say that we loose the next three games. I think coach Spurrier should start Ramsey and get him ready for next year. It is pretty obvious that no one is really comfortable with Shane or Danny and our hope is set with Ramsey as the future. What do you think?
Noah Brindise: I think you are right about playing him if we lose a few more games, hopefully that won't happen.
Arlington, Va.:
What can we expect from the Skins this Sunday?
Noah Brindise: Well, I hope that we can play a full game on both sides of the ball. We have had our moments on offense when we have played great. The first drive last week in Jax was one of those moments. Like I said earlier, I would love to see what we could do if we played well for 60 minutes- that is our goal this week.
Greenbelt, Md.:
Rich played in eight games for the 'Skins in '93.
Noah Brindise: I did not know that, thanks for the info! He is certainly flourishing out in Oakland in their system.
Alexandria, Va.:
Seems to me Shane's stats -- and the team's offensive scoring production -- would be better if Rod Gardner, Chris Doering, and others hadn't dropped so many balls. Matthews isn't Joe Theismann, but he's a solid QB, who needs sure-handed receivers and a protective line just like every other signal-caller in the NFL.
Noah Brindise: I think the receivers have done a preety good job catching the ball most of the time. Shane, as you said, can be a productive player. But he needs a strong offense around him. We can't expect him to drop back 50-60 times and win week in and week out in this league.
Fairfax City, Va.:
What're your thoughts on Skaggs? Will he play?
Noah Brindise: Skaggs is a great young man. He was rewarded for his hard work and desire to be a Redskin. I get inspiration watching him work on the practice field.
Washington, D.C.:
What's the story with Marvin Lewis?
Noah Brindise: Obviously, Marvin is going to be a head coach soon. He deserves it. I'm just trying to learn as much from him now while I can.
Ann Arbor, Mich.:
What is the team concentrating on for this Sunday's game against the Giants?
Noah Brindise: We are concentrating on trying to have a good plan and executing it on sunday. It's not rocket science!
Wheaton, Md.:
How much does it hurt the offensive rhythm when we have so many receiver changes -- Reidel Anthony cut in the preseason, then Kevin Lockett and Jacquez Green in the regular season? Does Shane, for example, have to adjust to having Willie Jackson instad of Jacquez Green or Kevin Lockett? How does shuffling starters -- Gardner, Goering, Flemister, et al -- affect Shane's game?
Noah Brindise: Well, anytime you have someone new in there it takes time adjusting to their speed. There is no question about that. We are trying to put together a group of receivers that can help us win games now and in the future. Unfortunatly, when it happens during the season sometimes you go through some growing pains. We are a work in progress, but have confidence knowing that nobody can coach the passing game like Coach Spurrier. Also understand, however, that it doesn't happen overnight.
Sierra Vista, Ariz.:
Could Weurffel come in if needed this game aganst the Giants?
Noah Brindise: Danny has begun some light throwing. He will be # 3 this week but could play in an emergency situation.
Silver Spring, Md.:
Yes, Gannon and Trent Green and Brad Johnson are doing well, but look at last year's Redskins cast-offs: Tony Banks is on the bench behind Brunell in Jacksonville, and Kent Graham is behind David Carr in Houston. You never know who will do well under which coaching system, around which other key players, and when they will peak in their careers. Am I correct?
Noah Brindise: Very much so. Good point.
Potomac, Md.:
Is Coach Spurrier having trouble adjusting to the grind-it-out ball-control scheme of the Redskins' personnel? Would it be easier for him if he had Kurt Warner, Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce?
Noah Brindise: Why don't you throw Marshall Faulk and Terrell Owens in there also!
Alexandria, Va.:
Sorry, it was a typo! I meant no disrespect. "Did you even play" should have read "Did you ever play." Just curious about your background. Thanks.
Noah Brindise: No problem. I played for Coach Spurrier at Florida. I actually backed up Danny Wuerffel until my senior season when I split time with Doug Johnson (Michael Vick's backup). And I even played in high school!
Conshohocken, Pa.:
When are you guys going to implement the vaunted speed package and what is the Pat Steaks Invitational?
Noah Brindise: The Speed package, as it is called in the Centennial conference, puts your "Speed in Space". You can also throw steamers out of it. The Pat's Steaks Invitational, of which I am the current champion, is a grind-it-out four day golf event named after the best cheesesteak shop in Philly.
Sierra Vista, Ariz.:
What about Skaggs speed? I heard he is one the fastest on the team. is that true?
Noah Brindise: He would have a hard time beating Champ, but he sure can run!
Crofton, Md.:
If Patrick Ramsey were needed to come into the game on Sunday, how much, and what kind of improvement do you think we would see since he last played?
Noah Brindise: I would hope that you would see a much higher comfort level in running our offense. He has all the other tools.
Noah Brindise: Thanks everyone. I look forward to next weeks chat. Hopefully we will be talking about our great win against the Giants! Be safe.
