The Starry Eye Astrologer
Hosted by Charlene Lichtenstein
Special to washingtonpost.com

Monday, Sept. 9, 2002; 6 p.m. ET

What's your sign? Do you want to know what the planets and heavenly bodies have aligned this year -- in your career, in romance or surprises in your daily life? Each week, "Madame" Lichtenstein, takes your questions on sun signs, lunar influences and all things in the stars.

Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.

Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot.

Wondering how Mercury in retrograde affects your day-to-day life? What eclipses means for you and your loved ones? How to get in touch with your rising sign?

Below is a transcript.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, the washingtonpost.com celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a lively discussion about astrology and the new age. My websites are www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope and www.TheStarryEye.com

Starbite of the week:
Since this week marks the 1st anniversary of Sept 11, 2001, I thought I would repeat my starbite from last year at this time:

There is no sense to be made from the events September 11. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted by these terrorist attacks. Here in lower Manhattan, we persevere but the landscape has changed forever.

I expect a barrage of questions on these events. Here are some random thoughts in no particular order:
1. The inevitable question for tonight – what was going on astrologically and why hasn’t anyone predicted this? Answer:
Astrology is not fate; there is free will and choice. Yet, there can be planetary alignments that indicate tougher times. In a January 2001 Starry Eye program I said - The planetary event that most affects the year 2001 is the Jupiter / Pluto opposition which occurs three times this year … expect expansive and volcanic changes. It will certainly not be a boring year!

What I did not mention at the time was that Saturn would form an opposition to Pluto seven months later, effectively replacing Jupiter in the aspect. Jupiter is the planet of expansion. Saturn is the planet of problems. Pluto is the planet of volcanic change.

2. Saturn is in Gemini during this opposition, the sign of the twins… Twin Towers.
3. The WTC towers were 28 years old – Saturn Return.
4. Read Michael Wolfstar O’Reilly’s NewScope on www.AccessNewAge.com for an event-based astrological analysis of the past two weeks.
5. For those in a Nostradamus frame of mind, check out John Hogue and www.dreamscape.com/morgana sites.
6. There has been a numerology email making the rounds that talks about the importance of the number 11. Read more about it on the home page of www.AccessNewAge.com .
7. Events and “things” (like buildings) have horoscope charts. I happen to have Osama bin Laden’s birth date and birth place (unfortunately not his time of birth). Nonetheless, if someone is interested in more details, you only have to ask…
8. Same thing for the birth of the World Trade Towers (actually the date of the ribbon cutting ceremony on 4/4/73). Interesting planetary positions….

And what are your questions tonight? Please include your birthdate, time and place for all astrology questions. And, if you have any feedback on some of my past answers, please send them along!

Washington, D.C.: Charlene,

I've been meaning to reply for a long time. Below is the copy of my original question to which you asked me a few questions (which I'll answer below).

Washington, D.C.: So far 2002 has been an interesting year that is leading me someplace that I'm not sure of. Last year I became involved with someone, but do not know what I should do about the relationship that seems to always be in a state of flux. July 22, 1970, Danville, Va.

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in Cancer, moon in Pisces, Mercury in Aries, Venus in Virgo, Mars in Leo. You are generally very sensitive and caring. A bold and brash thinker and communicator who loves to take grand action. You can be careful, conservative and practical in love (Venus in Virgo).

Would love to know this other person's birth data. If you have it re-send your original question (include my answer here to save time) and the extra info.

Charlene, the other person's info is as follows: Born Jan. 2, 1974 in Brownsville, Tex. I would love your input on the dynamic.

Many thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Thanks for following up and giving me my original response too!

He has sun in Capricorn, moon in aries and venus in aquarius. I can see your attraction to him with your venus well aspected to his sun.

Do you find him to be a bit aloof in expressing his love? I see this with his venus in aquarius which is arier than your earthy and solid venus in virgo. His sun in cap can also be fearful of failure and therefore he may not be the best at expressing his emotions. Yet his moon in robust aries indicates that he lets his emotions out when they need to get out – almost like an explosion. You may find him less sensitive and cuddly than you would like but innately understand this about him because of your mars in fiery leo. But you may feel somewhat less fulfilled around him emotionally. This is not a barrier - you have to let him know how you feel. He needs to make an effort to give you the emotional connection you need and crave.

Does this make sense?

Washington, D.C.: Dear Ms. Lichtenstein, the other night I dreamt I was a star in the sky before I was born, so I am feeling particularly inclined to toward the astrological. Born Sept. 2, 1972 Brooklyn, N.Y. at 4:49 a.m. Going through many major changes in significant relationships with others and my personal evolution. Happy and a bit overwhelmed, scared at times. Would love to know of anything of interest in my stars regarding work, romance, career and moving (the usual suspects). I am pursuing new horizons within my career field, and planning on moving to New York city in about a year. Thanks for your astro-insights!

Charlene Lichtenstein: You should be just about finishing off the end of your Saturn Return which is a three year period between ages 27 and 30 where we experience change, frustration and stress. We need to learn about ourselves and there are tough lessons that Saturn gives us. Read more about the Saturn Return at www.TheStarryEye.com on the Zodiascope page.

So it sounds to me that you have had a typical return with its changes and evolutions. Good!

You have sun in virgo, mercury in leo, venus in cancer and mars in virgo. You can be practical with an expansive mind and a dramtic communicaiton style. You love deeply and need lots of cuddling in a relationship. You take practical and careful action and don't mind the nitty gritty. You can be very detailed in your approach too.

Leo rising. Jupiter in your first house for the next year brings expanison in new directions. Go forth with your best ideas and see how fast they can expand and grow. New people bring you luck. Some issues with friends need to be resolved especially as to where you fit in the group dynamic. Unusual love interests or surprises in relationships for at least a year.

Moving to NY? Re-send all this informaiton in time for next weeks show and I will have a relocation chart ready for you!

Rockville, Md.: Not so much a question as an observation. My husband and I both have planets that were affected by Pluto going retrograde, and for a long time it seemed like we were just getting on each other's nerves and aggravating each other, for no particular reason. Then, at the end of August, it just all seemed to evaporate -- all the irritation disappeared. I wondered if it had something to do with astrological movements, and you confirmed that in your last chat. Good call. I just hope it doesn't go retro again for a long time.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Pluto may be prominent in one or both of your charts or you both may have a group of mutable signs that were the most imapcted - Sag, Gemini, Pisces and Virgo.

Pluto goes retro again on March 23, 2003. Oh well....

Send me your birth information(s) and I will have a look.

Washington, D.C.: Good evening,
My birthdate is 06/02/73, time of birth is 9:30 a.m. (approx) and place is White Plains, N.Y. My question is this: I recently left a stable, long-term relationship of nearly seven years to be on my own and completely start a new and very different life. I am wondering if this was a good idea or if now is the right time to have made such a huge and dramatic change in my life. Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: When did this happen? I ask because you are int he middle of your Saturn Return (ages 27-30) which is a time of frustration and stress. We want things NOW and they either don't happen or, if they do, theya re not what we wanted at all. Read more about the Return at www.TheStarryEye.com on the Zodiascope page.

Things we do during the return tend not to last because we are in such flux. I would say that it is very possible that once your return is over, you two may be back together....

Portland, Ore.: Madam Lichtenstein,

Please help me understand what is going on with my stars. I am trying to understand and deal with a broken heart. Please shed some light as to the new road I have just started down (mending this heart). DOB 6/28/66 6:30 a.m. PST. Can you see how 2/7/64 could have broken my heart? Any insight?

Thank you.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Hmmmm.

You have sun (personality) in cancer, moon (emotions) in scorpio and venus (love) in gemini. Possibly cancer rising which places capricorn on the cusp of your 7th house of marriage.

You are very sensitive and caring and very deep emotionally yet when you are in love, you can become a bit flirtatious. You need a meeting of the minds as much if not more than physical connection.

Heart-breaker has sun in aquarius, moon in sag and venus in pisces. This person has connected to you with their venus in pisces - very romantic and cuddly. But this placement can be fickle because they are in love with love. And maybe, just maybe, you gave them the tacit okay with that flirty Gemini venus which can also be fickle.

Sun in aquarius can be cold and aloof - difficult for a ccuddly cancer. Moon in sag is friendly and open - not a great match to the secretive and passionate moon in scorpio.

So while there are connectors, there is also a great deal that each of you would have to do to make the other comfortable and fulfilled.

Does thsi make sense?

My advice - seek soemone who is more practical and earthy and more settled - perhaps someone a bit older than you (more than 5 years) and/or more established. And someone with a bit of passion!

Brooklyn, N.Y.: Hello there. Wondering about something. A few weeks ago I asked about Pluto going direct. You said that it was in my 12th house. Just wanted to clarify because since I was born 10-21-1966 -- 11:18am I have Sag in my first house at 15 percent. I was wondering what this means for me? Also: Gemini squaring my natal saturn and Jupiter in leo in house 8? Is there any good news?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Sag at 15 degrees? Pluto is currently at about 15 degrees so it is leaving your 12th house and hitting yoru ascendant on the cusp of the first house. Pow! You may get some dramatic transformations now. Upheavals. Cleaning out the old / bringing in the new. Should already be happening.

Saturn squaring natal Saturn and Jupiter in your 8th? You have jupiter in leo and saturn in pisces. Saturn is currently in gemini so it is not squaring your Jupiter and finished with your Saturn. (Lessons having to do with 8th house - sex, death , taxes, other people money.)

Good news - what have you learned? Apply it for future success.

Bethesda, Md.: Today's my birthday--09/09/75, 11:43 a.m., Kansas. Wondering what my next year will be like. Thanks, in advance.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Happy birthday!
You have sun in virgo, moon in virgo, mercury in libra, venus in leo and mars in gemini. You are a practical hardworking person who is an expansive thinker and a diplomat. You are very generous and expansive when you are in love and you are interested in many different and interesting subjects. You are a great debater and win through your words.

Possibly sag rising which places transforming pluto in your first house of new beginnigns - I see continued new directions and changes through theyear. Mars is curretnly in your career sector - energy well directed into professional efforts for at least the next month. Luck through travel with Jupiter int he 9th house. Lessons to be learned in relationships thanks to Saturn.

Hope that helps!

Bethesda, Md.: Hi Charlene,

I have a question regarding the Saturn Return. I read the comment you made that things we do during our Saturn Return's do generally change and it is a time of confusion. Does this mean that every 27-30 year old (all of my friends) are basically running amuk, confused and dazed? Generally, 27-30 are when things get settled as far as career, family, goes, at least that's what I thought. It seems to go against everything I thought would happen and currently seeing. (Finally, we are happy in our age!) Can you clarify? For example, does this mean that my boyfriend (DOB: 5/24/1973) and I are doomed (DOB: 12/16/1975) because he is in his Saturn Return?

Does this sound like a stupid question?

Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: There are no stupid questions. The Return period affects everyone differently. SOme of us have Saturn well placed in our charts. SOme of us learn our life lessons quickly and adapt to the return challenges early.

27-30 is a great time of change with career family etc as we get settled but these can be stressful periods with decisions and choices.

For example - your boyfriend has sun in gemini, moon in aquarius, mercury and venus in gemini too. Saturn is in gemini now so Saturn is nicely aspecting his moon (his emotions) and conjucnts several of his personal planets. This is energy released. He is probably processing his Saturn return better than most.

When did you two meet? Before he turned 27?

Arlington, Va.: Hi,

This year has been very volitile for me career-wise and romantically. I have decided to go back to school this year for another graduate degree and was wondering if you had any feelings on my decision or how it will turn out. Also, I just entered into a romantic relationship with a person who I have been friends with for about a year, I think things look promising, but things never seem to work out in that department. Will this work out for me?

I was born on Feb. 17, 1977 in South Florida at 8:30 a.m.

Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in aquarius, moon, mercury and mars in aquarius and venus in aries. You are open, objective and interested in unique things and unorthodox people. You are pioneering in love and go after who you set your sights on. Possibly pisces rising which places intense scorpio on the cusp of your house of higher education.

Volatile in career - no doubt! Pluto the planet of transformations is in your 10th house of career. Change where change is needed.

Venus is currently in your 9th house of higher education so you will enjoy your new venture. Soon mercury will move there too as will the sun increasing your interest and motivation.

Send me your firends birth info with yours again and I will see how you match up.

Washington, D.C.: Born 12/11/1962 in Plainfield, N.J.

Can I change my nature or is it "written in the stars?"

Charlene Lichtenstein: Nothing is "written in the stars". Astrology is the guidemap but we still must drive the car!

You have sun in optimistic sag, mercury in sag too, venus in scorpio and mars in leo. You should be open, honest, friendly and optimistic with all that sag energy. But of course, pluto has been in sag for a while and may be too volcanic for you. Too many stresses and changes. But take heart - This will slowly pass so keep your innate optimisim and make good use of all that change that Pluto has wrought in your life.

Venus in scorpio - you are passionate, intense and jealous in love. You feel deeply. Mars in leo - you like to take dramatic action and can be very expansive and generous.

Look at everything that is possible within you and make it work for you.

Washignton, D.C.: Charlene --

I would love to hear your wisdom regarding my romantic life.

Born: December 4, 1978
Schenectady, New York
3:20 p.m. EDT

Charlene Lichtenstein: Okay -
You have sun in sag, moon in aquarius and vneusin scorpio. People think you are open, friendly and a bit aloof in love but withthat passionate venus in scorpio you are actually very intense when you are in love! You surprise people!

Possibly taurus rising which places that intense scorpio on the cusp of your 7th house of relationships. You love passion and can be a bit intense in a one-to-one.

So you may tend to attract less passionate people than you would like because outwardly and in the first stages, you are rather platonic yourself.

Does that sound right?

Baltimore, Md.: I'd like to find out how things look for my career these days. Specifically, is this an advantageous time to seek a new position?

I was born July 8, 1951 at 12:10 a.m. in Washington, D.C.

Thank you.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Let's see, you have sun in cancer, mercury in cancer and mars in cancer. Possibly aries rising which places capricorn on the cusp of your 10th housof career.

You need connection to others in a big way and can be very sensitive in your thought and actions. Cap on the top of your chart indicates that you need a creer that is somewhat prestigious, well paid, gives yo a bit of status and helps you fulfill your ambitions.

Mars, the planet of energy is currentlyin virgo which is making a great aspect to the top of your chart and is in the 6th house of work. This is a great time! Get going while the planets are hot hot hot.

Bethesda, Md.: It's me again about the Saturn Return.

We met when he was 28, right in the middle of his Saturn Return.

Is this bad?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Not at all. Especially if he is adjusting well to his return.

Everyone processes their returns differently. I know of a coupel who met during his return and married. They had to re-examine their marriage after his return passed and she went into her return. It was a little rough but they have come through and are now very very happy!

Durham, N.C.: My information
City of Birth: Fayetteville, N.C.
Time: 7:54 p.m.
Date: 8-25-77

His information
City of Birth: Williamston, N.C.
Date: 4-10-71
Time: I don't know

My question: I have been dating a guy and I feel like he is my soul-mate. We really get along and are into each other. I have had some really bad relationships in the past and would not like to see a repeat. Can you offer any insight?

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in virgo, moon in aquarius and venus in cancer.
He has sun in aries, moon in libra and venus in pisces.

His venus - how he expresses love- is well mathced to yours. His moon - how he expresses his emotions - is well matched to yours, as well as his sun to your moon. A good energy here. The real connector here in my opinion are your two watery venuses - both of you are romantic and deep feeling. Expressing your love is very important to both of you.

You are innately more practical and serious, he is more rambunctious. Viva la difference!

Virginia: Hello and thank you for responding to my question. I was born on July 25th 1961 4:25 p.m. in Manassas, Va. My significant other was born on October 4th 1959 in New Foundland Canada, not sure of his time. We have known one another for 6 years now. Dating for 4 and 1/2 of those 6 and living together for the past year in one household. We talk about marriage and a future, he tells me he loves me but he hasn't made the final commitment. I wonder if the stars can tell you if I am waiting for a marriage that will not happen or if he is just being very cautious. We have both been married before. I love him and want a solid future with him. Do the stars say that I am hanging in there for nothing or are we destined to be? Thanks vey much!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well I see that he has sun in libra, moon in scorpio and venus in virgo. In love, this would make him practical, earthy, loyal and reliable. And emotionally, with that moon in scorpio, he is a bubbling cauldrun of feelings waiting to emerge.

You are sun in leo, moon in sag and venus in gemini. Far less emotional and a bit flirty in love. You demand adoration but need to learn how to give it as well. Show him that you can be trusted. You may be trustworthy but you really need to show it with him. You connect well to his sun - his basic personality. Now work on connecting to his more emotional moon and his earthy venus.

Does that help?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Such great questions! Thank you all!

We have run out of time but please resend all those questions that I couldn't get to in time for next week's show - Monday Sept 16 at 6p.

Until next week, happy stargazing!

washingtonpost.com:

That wraps up today's show. Thanks to everyone who joined the discussion.
