Hosted by Charlene Lichtenstein
Special to washingtonpost.com

Monday, June 24, 2002; 6 p.m. EDT

What's your sign? Do you want to know what the planets and heavenly bodies have aligned this year -- in your career, in romance or surprises in your daily life? Each week, "Madame" Lichtenstein, takes your questions on sun signs, lunar influences and all things in the stars.

Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.

Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot.

Wondering how Mercury in retrograde affects your day-to-day life? What eclipses means for you and your loved ones? How to get in touch with your rising sign?

Below is a transcript.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, the washingtonpost.com celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a lively discussion about astrology and the new age. My websites are www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope and www.TheStarryEye.com

Starbite of the week:
There is a lunar eclipse today – do you feel emotionally heightened? This is the last eclipse a series of three this past month. Wait until at least Wednesday before you make any major decisions so the full impact of the eclipse has dissipated. And I would be remiss if I did not mention that last week was the summer solstice – the equinox. The solstice is the longest night of the year – a time when the North Pole is closest to the Sun. It’s a time of healing, growth and rejuvenation. It is also linked with fertility and sexuality. This eclipse may make all these changes a bit more emotional for us – not a bad thing unless we allow ourselves to go overboard. For a quick read on the effect of eclipses, please consult www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope and remember that beneficial changes can take place now.

And now let’s get to your great questions. Please don’t forget to include your birthdate time and place for all astrology questions.

Washington, D.C.: Dear Ms. Lichtenstein,

After reading your article on Saturn returns I found a book that showed where Saturn and the moon was placed in the chart of my husband. The accompanying interpretations of these placements were pretty bleak, but very fitting. (After reading the interpretations the car headlights lit right up!)

His Saturn is in the 8th house ("...native will marry a poor person, and the marriage will be a financial burden. There will also be major restrictions on career ambitions due to lack of capital." All of this is true!).

His moon is in Leo in the 10th house (he is both expansive and generous, and worrisome and doubting).

I am a financial burden to him, which the book agrees with thanks to my Saturn being in the 11th, and my moon being Sagittarius in the 6th house. (I am very hard-working, but nothing seems to last or work out or lead to anything else.) Needless to say I am worried for our shared destiny.

My question for you is does relocating really make a difference in your chart? We're thinking of Los Angeles or London. (New York is appealing but doesn't seem far enough away to make a difference.) What are your thoughts about our situation and these locations? Thank you so much for your assistance!! -Jo

His birthday is 10/13/71 - 7:36 am in Silver Spring, MD.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well this is a very interesting question. I am of the mind that our natal charts are not fate (thus those headlights!) and that once we realize our pitfalls and potential, it is up to us to make it work.

I have seen those with the most challenging charts become the most successful and those with the easiest of charts ruin their lives because things come too easy.

That being said, what I would like to suggest first is a solar return chart. There is the theory that by travelling on one's birthday we can modify the harsher aspects of our birth chart and accentuate the best parts of it. You would travel and be in that particular location at the time when your natal sun returns to its original position in your chart.

Who has the next birthday coming up? Send me the birth data and I will noodle around for the best locations.

Somewhere, USA Re: Resubmit for Relocation Chart: Hi - I submitted two weeks ago and you asked that I resubmit with my current address for relocation to NYC. I currently live in Washington DC and plan to move to NYC. I was born 6/16/1976 around 3:30 AM in Queens, NY. Any thoughts about my impending move, especially if I don't have a job lined up, should I move anyway? Thanks! I also just ended a 2 year relationship!

Charlene Lichtenstein: I ran your charts and am amazed at how different your Washington DC chart is from your birth chart. Do you feel like you are a very different person in DC?

Some of the major differences are: In NY your rising sign is Taurus – you appear to others to be more conservative, perhaps a bit more stubborn and staid. In Washington, you have Gemini rising. You appear to be sociable, friendly and intellectual – more like who you really are (sun sign). In NY you have Mercury in your first house – communication launches new things. In DC it is in your 12th – thoughts are more introspective and spiritual. In NY Venus and the sun are in your 2nd house – money is easier. In DC they are in your first – you are especially charming and attractive to others. In NY you have Pluto in your 6th house – work and health issues are powerful and transforming. In DC Pluto sits in your 5th house of fun – creativity and pastimes are transforming.

As a quick assessment (and alas, this show only allows me a quick assessment) I would say that life in general is easier for you in DC. Pluto makes a nice aspect to the top of your chart there so your career ascent may be easier. Neptune also makes a nice aspect to the top of the chart – inspiration. In your NY chart, Saturn opposes your midheaven leading me to believe that your career will have more stress in NY.

Am I making sense to what you innately feel?

Greenbelt, Md.: I was born in Washington DC 6/3/73 1:26 PM. I've been going through a difficult time lately, after losing someone very dear to a sudden illness. Although some things have started to look up, some of my family members are still ill, and many things in my life are unsettled.

Is this Saturn returning--I thought I should be through that by now? Will things be more stable soon, or am I still facing a rough ride?

Thank you. I hope you consider taking my question. Thanks

Charlene Lichtenstein: The Saturn Return lasts apx 3 years - from 27-30 so you are in the middle of it. It is a time of increased stress and frustration but can also be a time for learning, personal insight and wisdom. It's not the most fun time but when you turn 30 and look back on your experiences, you will feel some amount of accomplishment. Read more about this phase at www.TheStarryEye.com.

You have Saturn in 22 degrees of Gemini. Currently Saturn is 17 degrees of Gemini. I would give it until early in 2003 before you really begin to feel relief. But use this time to learn and experience. It will not be for nothing.

Alexandria, Va.: Hi Charlene - thanks for taking my question.

Born November 7th, 1975 at 7:30 p.m. in Annapolis, Md.

I'm in the process of going through many changes, almost seems like a major life milestone. Possibly changing jobs, new relationship, possibly a new place to live. I'm curious to know when things might settle out a bit, and I can enjoy all the new things coming into my life.

Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in scorpio, mercury in scoprio, venus in virgo and mars in cancer. Possibly gemini rising.

Overall you are a very intense and passionate person. You are an incisive and strategic thinker and communicator. In love you are loyal and rather practical. You are an emotional fighter.

July sees a great deal of activity in your money sector. I see you focusing on it and making some nice gains. As Venus moves into your 4th hosue of home and family on July 11th, your homelife can become a center of love and support.

Pluto is sitting in your relationship house now and will be for a few years - expect transformations in how you regard relationships and who you choose as a partner. Right now it may seem rather volcanic in that area. Hold steady and keep your strategic scorpio eye on the long term

In Novemebr you will be entering your first Saturn Return (ages 27-30) so try to implement anyu big change before then. Big changes that occur during the return tend not to last because we change during that period and are experimenting.

Athens, Ga.: Hello Charlene, My birthday is 2/15/1964, born at 11:55 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich. I'd like to know what this year will hold for me.

Thank you.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well let's see -
You have sun in aquarius, mercury in aquarius, venus in aries and mars in aquarius. Possibly scorpio rising.

You are inspirational and can see the long view in any issue. You are also a bit of an iconoclast and individualist. In love, you are very direct and pioneering - you see who you want and go right after them.

In July there will be many planets transiting the top of your chart which I see as an opportunity to get yourself out into the public eye and to make new inroads into your career. If you are planning a vaction, do so before mid-month when your energy and attention are directed there. After that you are more focused on professional aspirations. Luck with higher learning, through legal issues or through foreigners (thanks to Jupiter in your 9th house) for the next couple of years.

Venus in your 11th hosue after the 11th of July brings friendships to the fore. They are there for you and vice versa.

Hope that helps.

Rockville, Md.: Dear Madam:

I forgot to include the year of birth: 10/31/61 (born 7:15 am in Saigon, Vietnam)and my ex is 04/12/58 (time of birth not available).
The questions are as follows: my ex and I broke up but we remained friends. Will we get back together and is there any reliefs for me in July or the rest of the year since the first 6 months have been difficult.
Thanks again.

Charlene Lichtenstein: First let's see your compatibility through your venus signs, then I will look at your planets.

You have sun in scorpio, venus in libra.
He has sun in aries, venus in pisces.

You can be very passionate about things in general but when you are in love, you are a bit more flirtatious. He is very direct and fiery in general (aries sun) but in love he is very mushy and romantic. If you can understand how much he needs romance and love, you two can be very happy. He may see you as uncaring or too flippant about the deep emotional part of the relationship. If you make it a point to be more serious in love, this can be a fine relationship.

You may have sagittarius rising which means to me that July will begin with relationship and love issues and end with you more global in your outlook and possibly travelling and exploring new expansive things.

Have your major difficulties been in relationships? Saturn sits in your 7th hosue for a while so that area may continue to be stressful but you will learn a great deal about what type of relationship you need.

After July 11 as Venus enters your 10th hosue you may find career opportunities expand and those in authority take a liking to you and your efforts.

Hope that helps!

Somewhere, USA -- Second Saturn Return?: Dear Charlene
Thank you very much for your consultation concerning the saturn second
return I am experiencing right now. I was born in Cairo, Egypt on
January 17, 1944 at 10:38 a.m. Can you, extend your graciousness, and advice me how to handle this saturn second return.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well you have sun in capricorn, mercury in cap, venus in sag and mars in gemini. You are very serious and conservative and can speak with great authority. In love you may be attracted to unusual or foreign/international types and those with a great sense of humor.

Your saturn is 20 degrees in your 3rd house on gemini. Yes, you are in the middle of your 2nd return and you should begin to feel some relief in July (that's good!).

The second return (they occur every 28 years or so) is a culmination of your first. So when you were 27-30 did you have trouble in school or feel that you were not smart enough? Possible problems with siblings or neighbors? Anything that was not "finished" at that time will come around for another life lesson. But if you overcame those issues long ago, now is the time to reap the rewards - big time!

So let me know if I am on target.

Alexandria, Va.: Hi, Charlene. 7/9/48, 9:03pm, Philadelphia, Pa. When does jupiter enter cancer, please? Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Jupiter entered Cancer in July 01 and will move through the sign until August 1, 2002.
Why do you ask?

Montreal, Quebec: : Hello Starry Eye,
Any insights that you can share regarding relocation would be really helpful. I'm looking into graduate studies in Literature. There are two fine Ph.D. programs that I'm interested in. One is at Berkeley, in California. The other is at Columbia University, in New York City. I'm dying for a change of scene, and I find Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay area an enticing option. I'm interested in what a relocation chart would suggest for moving to the Bay Area (specifically Berkeley). My data: June 10, 1963; Montreal, Quebec, Canada; 0700 (a.m.).
Thank you!

Charlene Lichtenstein: I ran all your charts - your birth chart for Montreal and the two relocation charts - Berkeley and NYC.

There are some intersting differences - In CA, you have gemini on the cusp of your 12th hosue of spirituality. I sense a real exploration of these issues as Geminis an intellectual and curious energy. In NY Taurus is on the cusp of your 12th house - more of a satisfaction for the status quo in these areas. (Your birth chart has gemini there....)

The other major difference is in NY you have your moon in your 7th osue and in CA it is in your 8th. Meaning to me that CA will be more introspective and possibly inspirational. WHile in NY you may gravitate to one to one relationships. (Birth chart moon in the 7th)

I say the CA chart is modestly better than NYC because the vertex, a powerpoint in the chart, is making a great aspect to the top of your chart there. Your NY chart is closest to your birth chart so you may feel more at home in NY.

Hope that helps!

Somewhere, USA -- Yet ANOTHER Sag!: Hi Charlene! A couple of months ago you answered my question about why I seem to be attracted to Sagittarian men, saying there was a lot of fire in my chart. Well, guess what? I've met yet another Sag that I REALLY like and I was wondering what the prognosis might be for us. Me - 4/23/61, 7:59 a.m., Chicago, IL. Him - 12/17/62, Houston, TX. Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Let's see -

So you have sun in taurus, moon in leo and venus in aries.
He has sun is sag (naturally....), moon in virgo and venus in scorpio.

That is very nice - his moon (emotions) and venus (how he expresses love) mesh well with your sun (general personality). Your fiery venus and moon are well matched to his sunny sun. His sun sits inyour 7th house of relationships - he is what you are looking for in a partner (as are most sags....) and his moon is nicely connected to your sense of family home and security.

This is a very nice match! Let me know how it goes.

Washington, D.C.: Hello Charlene!
Two short questions!! Why in My Natal chart, in The 7th house there is nothing there? Doe's that mean that I'm destined not to find love? Next My midheaven is Aquarius in the 10th house and My North Node is Cancer in the first house. What does this mean in full scheme of my chart?? Thanks (Girard)- 1/27/64 - 12:50pm in Washington DC.

Charlene Lichtenstein: When a house is empty it just means that this area of your life is not as pressing for you. Where we have several planets (like in my chart where I have four planets in my 4th hosue) htat area tends to get our greatest attention. Of course it all depends what planets are where but when a house is empty it does not mean that we never fulfill that area. Far from it - it is an area that we let come to us.

If your midheaven is aquarius, I think you or 7th house has scorpio on the cusp. You seek great intimacy and passion in relationships. Aquarius on the 10th means that professionally you need space and all sorts of interesting ideas and theories to keep you interested. You may also want a creer that involves travel or reaching great numbers of people at the same time. Electronics, television, computing etc.

I don't bother with the nodes. North node is the "head of the dragon" where energy emits from the chart. The South node is the tail - where we undo ourselves. Your south node should be in the oppositie house to the norht so 7th hosue. Hmm - see how you are behaving in relationships to see if you are the one undoing them.

Does that help?

Washington, D.C.: Evening Madame Lichtenstein!

I had a really bad week last week (mugged, career upheaval, boy trouble). Hopefully this isn't an indicator for the rest of the summer. Do you mind taking a look?

Danbury, CT. 8/16/78. 10:20am

Thanks

Charlene Lichtenstein: Not at all -
You have sun in leo, mercury in leo, venus in libra and mars in libra. You are generally a very upbeat optimistic person - generous, gregarious and sociable. Possibly libra rising.

So let's see what might have hit your chart this week.
You have your sun and mercury at the tail end of leo the lion (no pun intended...). Uranus, the planet of explosive surprises is currently 28 degrees aquarius which is opposing your leo planets. You could experience a few bumps in the road as that occurs. This opposition will continue for a while because uranus is retrograding (going backwards) and therefore rolling over your sun and mercury again. Not until early 2003 will uranus finally pass.

So be extra careful over the next few months and take fewer risks. The great thing about astrology is that we can make even a surprising period a little more predictable.

I hope that helps. Please let me know how you are doing through the summer.

Washington, D.C.: How is this triangle saga likely to turn out?

He: 11/22/64 (unhappy, but dutiful b/c of child used to "catch" him)
Time: 8:15 p.m., Gary, IN

She: 9/23/73 (very smartly manipulative & self-serving)
Time: ?, Washington, DC

Me/other "she": 12/12/66 (tolerant & waiting)
Time: 2:57 a.m., Charlotte, NC

Charlene Lichtenstein: He: sun in scorpio, moon in cancer and venus in libra.
Generally intense and passioante, emotionally very sensitive and craves mothering. In love, flirtatious, charming and charismatic.

She:sunin virgo, moon in leo and venus in scorpio.
Generally practical and conservative, emotionally expansive and loves to be the center of attention. In love passionate, jealous and intense. Connects to her husbands sun (personality) and moon (emotions).

You:sun, moon and venus in sagittarius. Optimistic, expansive, hopeful and too honest for your own good. Both He and She can manipulate the heck out of you.

Often we seek partners who are quite oppositie from us - those who give us what we lack. But with all your fire, you may find that eventually the water signs will douse your enthusiasm for life and love.

Why not hedge your bets and still shop around? Pluto in Sag is going to give you some big transforming experiences and possibly push you for a change anyway.

Charlene Lichtenstein: We have run out of time!
Thank you all for your great questions. For those who I couldn't get to this week, please try again next week.

Please join me next Monday at 6p for another edition of The Starry Eye. And until then, happy stargazing!
