Hosted by Charlene Lichtenstein
Special to washingtonpost.com

Monday, June 3, 2002; 6 p.m. EDT

What's your sign? Do you want to know what the planets and heavenly bodies have aligned this year -- in your career, in romance or surprises in your daily life? Each week, "Madame" Lichtenstein, takes your questions on sun signs, lunar influences and all things in the stars.

Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.

Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot.

Wondering how Mercury in retrograde affects your day-to-day life? What eclipses means for you and your loved ones? How to get in touch with your rising sign?

Below is a transcript.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, the washingtonpost.com celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a lively discussion about astrology and the new age. My websites are www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope and www.TheStarryEye.com

Starbite of the week:
NPR’s Morning Edition on May 13, 2002 reported that the town of Sausalito, CA rejected a new police building because of bad Feng Shui. Feng Shui is the Chinese art of arranging a room to promote harmony and increase success and happiness. It also applies to how buildings are constructed. This is the first time I have heard of Feng Shui impacting the construction of a public building in the United States. Maybe we are seeing a trend??

And now, what do you have to say? Please include your birthdate, time and place for all astrological requests.

It's My Birthday!: Hi Charlene,

I'm hoping today I'll have a better chance of getting my question in, since it's the big day. I was born June 3, 1976 at 3:15 p.m. in Washington, D.C.

So it's been quite a turbulent year -- career, love, friendships, health -- and I'm hoping things will settle down a bit. What do the stars have to say about my prospects in the coming year? (Please, let there be something positive.)

Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Happy Birthday!
You have sun (general personality) in gemini, moon (emotions) in leo, mercury (how you communicate) in taurus, venus (how you express love) in gemini and mars (how you act and react) in leo. Possibly scorpio rising.

Generally you are friendly, chatty and sociable. You are grand in your emotional display and can be quite dramatic (leo moon and mars). You are a careful communicator and can be quite fliratious in love (venus in gemini).

With Scorpio rising, you will see a great deal of activity in your relationships and intimacy areas over the summer. These areas will spur luck, energy and some reappraisal of what works and doesn't work for you. Make your bad relationships of the past work for you in the future by knowing what went wrong and what didn't work for you.

Good vibes in your career as Venus enters your 10th hosue on June 15. Spread your charm around there. May also indicate love on the job. Ahem...

You know, there are some who believe that you can change your horoscope by travelling on your birthday. It is called a solar return chart. By travelling you move the planets (and their aspects) to different houses in your chart. Want more money? Travel so lucky Jupiter sits in your money house. Does it work? I don't know but I have been trying it for a few years and so far so good.

Edgy in Virginia: Husband and I have been cranky with each other lately and I was wondering if something is going on that may be making our normally agreeable attitudes dissapear. I am May 7, 1979 1:43 a.m. Pensacola Fla., He is Dec. 4, 1974 Manassas, Va. not sure of the time.
Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Oh ho! The first thing I see is that your husband just entered his first Saturn Return. This is a three years period from apx ages 27-30. We feel frustrated, stressed and generally unfulfilled. We want changes NOW! But those changes either never happen or, if they do, they are not what we wanted at all. Read more about the Saturn Return on my website www.TheStarryEye.com on the zodiascope page.

Couple that witht he fact that he is a sun sign sagittarius - pluto is currently trolling through sag making all Archers a bit restless. Pluto changes ourt landscape in unexpected ways. It brings change where change is needed but can make us feel uncomfortable.

So now that you know what is happening, help him navigate the turgid waters and be very very patient with him.
Hope that helps.

Leiden, The Netherlands: Dear Charlene,
I am an Aries, born in the Hague, the Netherlands on 10 April 1964. I wonder if my plans to move will actually happen.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome!
You have sun in Aries, moon in pisces, mercury in taurus, venus and mars in gemini. I wish I had your time of birth - then I could figure out your rising sign and see what signs are on what houses in your birth chart. House tell us where things are happening - home, family, work, health, friends etc

Generally speaking you are a very pioneering person, one who likes to take charge and make their own destiny. You are a careful thinker and communicator and in love you can be very flirtatious and friendly. It may be difficult for you to decide on one particular person or one course of action - venus and mars in gemini can scatter your energies by making you very interested in several options at once.

Pluto, the planet of change is currently travelling through sagittarius and therefore aspecting your gemini and pisces planets. You may be feeling the need for change and pluto may just deliver it!

Do you know where you will be moving? I can run your relocation chart for the different location. But I will also need your time of birth!

Washington, D.C.: I was born on June 19th, 1977 in Kisumu, Kenya at 5:48 a.m. I recently broke up with a man who I thought was quite special. He was a Virgo born on Sept.15, 1976. I think I did the right thing and that now is a good time for me to be single. So in general, what do the stars say about my love life and what sign(s) would favour a good & balanced relationship?

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in gemini, moon (how you express your emotions) in cancer, venus (planet of love) in taurus and mars (how you take action) in gemini.

He has sun in virgo, moon in gemini, venus and mars in libra.

I can see the connections between the two of you - your general personality (sun) meshed well with how he expressed his emotions, his love and his male energies. Emotionally you felt in tune with his general personality.

He strives for harmony at all costs while geminis rather love to "discuss" and take apart a situation over and over. He probably was not intereted in that. You might have had a stronger sex drive than he does. Venus in Taurus is very earthy and sensuous while venus libras are more platonic than passionate. That is not to say that it would never work, but it would take some compromise and effort to do so.

You possibly have gemini rising which places capricorn on the cusp of your intimacy sector. You need someone who will bring you out of your shell. Perhaps someone older or more experienced. ALso, Sag on the cusp of your 7th may indicate someone from a different culture or someone who is international and eclectic. I would say that someone with some earth or water in his chart would be good for you because it brings out your emotions and can be much more intimate but also a bit of fire to heat things up and make your life more exciting.
Hope that helps.

Portland, Ore.: Good Evening,

What do the stars hold for this aging crab? I must say May was about the worst month I have had in several years. Does June look better? The summer? 6/28/66 6:30 a.m. in Seattle, Wash.

Thanks,

Charlene Lichtenstein: Not aging at all!
You have sun in cancer, moon in scorpio, mercury in leo, venus in gemini and mars in gemini. Possibly cancer rising .

Generally you are sensitive, caring and mothering. You feel deeply. You are an expansive and dramatic communicator, perhaps a bit flirtatious in love and enjoy many different activities.

June sees a great deal of activity in you 12th house of spirituality and first house of new beginnings. An excellent time to reassess what is and is not improtant to you. Three may be someone working against you behind your back but the gloriosu sun will expose them and protect you. After June 22, consider embarking in a new direction, meet new people or taking on new projects. You have great energy (mars in your 1st house) and luck (jupiter too). This should last through July.

Jakarta, Indonesia: Birthdate: June 1, 1966; Place: Washington D.C.; Time: 7 p.m.

What is the key to being better plugged into natural/universal energy? How can I make it work for me?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Oh my - big question!
I would say that the best way of being plugged in is to really understand your chart since that is the key to your personality - your strengths, weaknesses, characteristics, hopes, fears and dreams. Then monitor the transiting aspects to your chart to maximize your potential and better sync your timing.

You have sun in gemini - generally friendly, witty, sociable, perhaps somewhat scattered. Moon in scorpio - a wellspring of emotion, passionate and intense. Mercury in gemini - a quick and witty thinker and communicator. Venus in taurus - a loyal and sensual lover. Mars in gemini - can be scattered, loves to debate and exchange ideas. Fights iwth words not with fists. Possibly sag or capricorn rising - expect a great deal of activity in job or relationships this summer. There are lessons to be learned and applied here. Luck in relationships courtest of Jupiter and mars give you energy through the summer to seek the best partner for you.

12th house signs give you the spiritual clues - sag or scorpio in my quick chart (would need to run on the computer to be sure). Life is a mystery waiting to be unlocked. Do you unlock it through sag or scorpio energies?
What makes the most sense to you? Through higher learning and international research or through careful calculating strategies that are more introspective?

Washington, D.C.: Hi Madame Lichtenstein,
What does it mean when aspects of your chart are of different elements? Does it mean it's harder to integrate different parts of your personality and strike a balance? More growing pains and frustration?
Born: 5/3/79 in Fairfield, Calif. 2:50 a.m.
Aquarius ascendant
Taurus sun
Leo moon
Mercury in aries
Mars in aries
Venus in aries
Jupiter in leo
Saturn in virgo

What problems might arise with my chart? I'm not looking to blame all my problems on my chart, but rather to gain insight and work on myself (so I can get what I want in life). Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Your chart is like a guidemap, where it leads you is up to you! Don't blame your chart- work with it!

Yu are genreally very sedate and conservative ut can be very pioneering in how you communicate and express your love. You are a force to be reckoned with when you fight, between that aries mars and that persevering taurus sun. Don't get in your way!

All you aries planets are probably in your second house of money or thrid house of communication. SO that means that money is either very important to you or making your ideas known is very improtant. Wherever we have more than 3 planets is where we feel the most pressing energy.

You seem more "fire" (aries and leo) than earth (taurus) so you are more exhuberant than the average taurus. This is great - it gives you the extra oomph to get things done. Taurueans can get rather placid but I suspect you don't.

When it comes to different elements in the chart - viva la difference! It gives extra juice!

Washington, D.C.: I just got dumped out of nowhere and I'm heartbroken. He's born 10/13/74, Virginia Beach, Va., I'm born 11/20/72, Takoma Park, Md. 9:30 p.m. Any words of advice for me or this or any upcoming matters of the heart?

Charlene Lichtenstein: First, you are both going through your Saturn Returns. It is a three year period from ages 27-30 where we feel extra stressed. Read more about it at www.TheStarryEye.com in the Zodiascope section.

Things "begun" (like this ending here....) during the return tend not to last. I am going out on a limb here but I would not be surprised if you two try to get together again. Of course, by that time you may not want him!

You have sun in scorpio, moon in taurus and venus in libra. You put up with a lot in love striving for harmony at all costs. You love deeply and intensely and need someone who is loyal. Yet you may gravitate to those who are physically beautiful with little core. As you progress through your return (it is almost over) think carefully about the chosices you make in love and whether they work for you. Do you give up too much?

Please stay in touch and let me know how it goes.

Winchester, Va.: Good evening! Not an avid astrologist, but find it very interesting. Any hope for a Capricorn on the horizon? Born December 27, 1965, in Leesburg, Va. at 8:52 p.m., although I don't remember much about the delivery! Thanks for your time!

Charlene Lichtenstein: There is always hope for a Capricorn!
You have sun in cap (of course!) mercury in sagittarius, venus in aquarius and mars in aquarius. Possibly leo rising which means that there are a group of plants in your 11th and 12th houses this June. Expect friends to take up more of your summer time and, as the sun wends throughcancer on the 22nd of June, you may find a hidden supporter to help you through some heretofore hidden problems.

This is a great summer to volunteer for a good cause. Putting more energy into the public good will prove to be lucky and beneficial to you in the long term.

Some friends may need your help or there may be some disagreements that need to be smoothed out. Learn from your experiences to make each friendship stronger and more in sync with both of your needs.

Waldorf, Md.: Hi, Charlene! In preparation for retirement late next year I am spending a lot of time and energy and becoming physically fit and healthy. Having spent most of my life 'out of body' it is requiring a lot of work but the resulting grounding has allowed me some rapid growth while examining/letting go emotions/beliefs to move along this path. My goal is to fully open my creative spirit to what the universe has in store. Can the Starry Eye tell whether my rabid optimism is a typical Libra in flight, or can I expect some unusual challenges in the next few months? (September 24, 1948, Washington D.C., 8:30 a.m.) Thanks for sharing your vision!

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in libra, mercury in libra, venus in leo and mars in scorpio. Possibly scorpio rising.

Actually a couple of things come into the fore. First your mars (energy) in intense scorpio is a fairly passionate placement. When this mars gets aspected, you have loads of directioned energy. I bet your mars is being trined by transiting mars in cancer (a good aspect - good directions and energies) and lucky Jupiter in cancer. So through July you will have ample reserves to get things done and for the next year, Jupiter delivers expansive results for any efforts.

There are also 3 big planets in your 8th hosue of psychology and deep personal insights. No wonder you are examining the universe for answers. This should continue through the summer. Expect some things to work on thanks to taskmaster Saturn.....

Catonville, Md.: Hello Madam Lichenstein,

I was born in Cleveland, Ohio Feb. 9, 1970 at 3:20 p.m.

My question is about my career and family. I am curious as to what you can tell me about the near and long-term future.

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in aquarius, mercury in capricorn, venus in aquarius and mars in aries. You are passionate about great causues and can be quite unorthodox in how you approach life. You are a conservative tinker and may not believ ethat you measure up academically so you work extra hard. This is great because you succeed much further than others. You are less passionate in love and may be attracted to unorthodox partners. You are a strong force when you decide to take action - nothing can stop you once your mind is made up!

Yu may possibly have cancer rising. The summer is the time to begin new projects, meet new people and launch new ideas. The sky is the limit! Pluto in your 6th house of work indicates changes on the job and maybe soem big transformations in how you perform your job. Try to reduce stress.

Saturn in your 12th house indicates that you may a few surprise problems that you will have to grapple with over the next couple of years. But Saturn gives you the strength and the knowledge to overcome any problem - as long as you work hard!

Washington, D.C.: I am the "dumpee" of the earlier question. I know you are absolutely right about our both being in Saturn Returns (and about everything else too). My further question is whether we are even a good match star-wise, or is this another Saturn return mistake best avoided?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Oh - I wish you would give me your birthdates again. Once I answer a question I cannot go back and review the birth data.

Send this question along with the birhtdata again in time for the next show and I will have a look.

Alexandria, Va.: Hello Charlene:

I was born 5/6/1972 at 5:20 a.m. in Cincinnati, Ohio. I would be interesting in hearing your read on my future love life.

Recently, I had a palm reading and the woman suggested I would be in my early 30's when I married and had two sons. However, as you can tell I'm already 30, and I think she miss read my age -- I serious look about 25. I was just curious to get your opinion.

Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: I don't know about palm readres - I think their prognosis must be off a few years here and there. I would suggest that we look instead at the Saturn Return for timing. You have just just completed your return which means to me that you are ready to set down foundations and know what you want and what type of person you want to share it with. The past three years ahve been one long lesson. Now cash in by getting out there and looking for the person who is really the best for you.

You have sun in taurus, moon in aquarius and venus in gemini.Possibly taurus rising. You can be a bit flirtatious in love and may have trouble choosing one particular person but you do have the capability to be loyal and sensual. Dip into that ability to cement a relationship. Scorpio on the cusp of the 7th house indicates the need for an intense and passionate partner. Someone sensitive.

I would say that if you get out ther eand avidly seek someone, the next few months will prove pivotal! Get out there and look!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Whew! We have run out of time. Thank you all for your great questions. Please join me next week (check the schedule for the day) for another The Starry Eye Astrology. ANd please check my website www.TheStarryEye.com for the latest monthly horoscopes.

Until next week, happy stargazing!
