The Starry Eye Astrologer
Hosted by Charlene Lichtenstein
Special to washingtonpost.com

Monday, March 25, 2002; 6 p.m. EST

What's your sign? Do you want to know what the planets and heavenly bodies have aligned this year -- in your career, in romance or surprises in your daily life? Each week, "Madame" Lichtenstein, takes your questions on sun signs, lunar influences and all things in the stars.

Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.

Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot.

Wondering how Mercury in retrograde affects your day-to-day life? What eclipses means for you and your loved ones? How to get in touch with your rising sign?

Below is a transcript.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, the washingtonpost.com celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a lively discussion about astrology and the new age. Check out February’s horoscope on www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope as well as articles on eclipses, void of course moons and Saturn Returns.

Starbite of the week:
March 20 (last Wednesday) was the Vernal Equinox. That is when the number of hours of day equals the number of hours of night. This Equinox marks the return of spring when the days become warmer and everything comes alive after slumbering all winter. It is the triumph of life over death and begins a period of growth for the earth. It marks the beginning of Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. Wiccans celebrate Oestara (the Spring Equinox) with eggs, planting, bonfires and mediation. Christians celebrate the resurrection of Christ and Easter eggs. For all it is a magical time with a feeling of newness, rejuvenation and hope. Start your spring cleaning now. Out with the old and in with the new!

Let’s now get to your great questions. Please remember to include your birthdate, time and place of all astrological requests.

Arlington, Va.: Who do you recommend I see in the D.C. area for a reading? Thank you.

Charlene Lichtenstein: I do not know of anyone specifically in the DC area, however you can contact the local chapter of the National Council of GeoCosmic Research (the NCGR) and they should have a very reputable group of seasoned astrologers to help you.

Gaithersburg, Md.: Thanks so much for running my chart months ago, I haven't been successful in getting this part of my Qt in your program yet!

I would like to know something more specific about my job/career. I want to change jobs and have been trying with no luck so far. I am contemplating leaving this even if I don't get another one. Do you see a change any time soon? Will that be for the better?
-Date of birth: 22/6/1970, Time of birth: 21 hrs 38 min (9:38 p.m.), Pondichery, India.
Thanks a ton again.

Charlene Lichtenstein: I don't have your chart in front of me - because you were born in INdia I would want to be sure of the rising sign and the sign on the 10th house of career.
Can you please resubmit with this information. I can also get your chart from my files and can answer it next week if yoou don't have your chart handy.

Washington, DC: Any advice from the stars on this one? I'm in a relationship with a guy who seems ready for marriage, but is still getting over a past relationship where he was engaged and then broke it off two years ago. This is requiring a lot of patience on my part because he wants to make sure everything is "100 percent" so as to avoid that pain again. I'm wondering how things will work out. I was born 6/7/78 at 7:11 am. He -- 7/15/72. Could he be the one?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Hmmm.
Well off the top of my head I see that he is in the middle of his Saturn Return. This is a three year period (ages 27-30) where we go through changes, stress and frustrations. Oftentimes things that we begin (or solidify) during the return do not last because we are changing and developing during this time. Read more about the return at www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope for more details.

Now, you have sun in gemini and venus (how you express your love) in sensitive and mothering cancer. So personality -wise, you are a flirtative and light gemini but when you are in love, you feel very deeply and are very caring.

He has sun in cancer and venus in gemini! There is a great attraction here. Yet, the way he expresses love may be a little too friendly and less passionate than you would like. He is capable of great feeling (as evidenced by his cancer sun) but should be reminded to express his deeper feelings with his partner. He also loves a meeting of the minds and needs to feel that his partner is his intellectual equal. I am sure that you can do that!!

I would wait until he turns 30 before solidifying anything. Go with the flow for now.

Santa Fe, N.M.:
Hi Charlene! I love your chats -- I read them every week.

Do you think certain astrological placements are more predisposed to infidelity or a resistance to monogamy? If so, what sign -- Mars, Venus, or the Moon -- would most influence the sexual libido for wanderlust?

I can give you an example -- My mother has her moon in Leo, Mars in Aquarius, and Venus in Capricorn. My father has his moon in Aries, Mars in Aquarius, and Venus in Aries. One of these persons cheated. Can you tell who?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Such an interesting question!
Most astrology books will say that those with air signs may be more predisposed to cheat but infidelity is the decision of the individual and, in my opinion, is based more on environment. So a very possessive and passioante Scorpio who feels neglected in a relationship may stray, as would a cavalier Gemini who may do it for kicks.

Your mother's moon in Leo demands attention and adoration. Did she get it from her pioneering venus in Aries husband?
Her venus in capricorn may seek someone successful because capricorn is more concerned with status and security. Could your dad offer that?

Conversely, your father's venus in aries is always seeking new challenges. That venus can be active and aggressive.

I am taking a stab in the dark here because I do not know the situation and have not seen their full charts such as what is going on in the 7th house of marriage and the 5th of romance and the 8th of sexuality. From what you sent me I would say your mother.

So who is it??

Washington, D.C.: Hello Madam L.:
I love astrology and find your analysis very insightful.
I was born on March 18, 1974 around 7 p.m. in Connecticut.
I feel like I am going through a strange phase of transition; often I feel like I'm only half-awake.
Hoping for any guidance or observations you can offer.
Thank you!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Sounds a bit like your Saturn Return which is a three year period (ages 27-30 apx) of frustration, change and stress. We want things NOW, but things either don't come to us or, if they do, they are not what we want at all! Read more about the return at www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope for more details.

You have sun and mercury in pisces which can also cause some foggy thinking (mercury) especially when all the mutable planets (sag, pisces, virgo and gemini) are being aspected by transiting pluto. Pluto is the planet of volcanic change and transformation. This may be a very creative time for you or you may find that you are re-examining your values and direction in life.

Go with the flow of the return and use the next couple of years to learn more about yourslef. Saturn rewards those who learn their life lessons well!

Louisville, Ky.: Hi, I have been reading the scripts from your previous sessions and hope you can be as helpful to me as you have been to others. I have met a man that I am interested in getting to know. Can you tell me if we are a good match. My DOB is 7/18/78, Findlay, Ohio, His is 8/28/79, Louisville, Ky. I don't know his birthtime, but I am a virgo rising.

Thanks for your input.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Let's see -
You have sun in cancer and venus in virgo. He has sun and venus in virgo, mars in cancer. Venus is the planet of love - it shows how we express our love for another. Mars is his male energy and how he acts.

There is a great deal of synergy between the two of you - his sun and venus are well aspected to your sun. Your venuses are conjunct which brings a great deal of oomph to the party. Your venus (female energy) is well aspected to his mars.

The thing to keep in mind is that you two are very similiar in how you express your love. You can be a bit conservative and careful but when you feel confident you two can be very earthy!

If you can get me yours and his birth signs, I would like to see what is going on in your 7th houses (the house of marriage and relationships).

But from what I see so far, I think you should definitely get to know him better - you may already know a bit about him!

Dallas, Tex.: Charlene,

I am an Aquarius born Jan. 21, 1979 in Dallas, Tex. (time unknown.) The past few months have been difficult for me, in regard to my marriage and education. I married young, and I have spent the past three years tending to my ailing mother-in-law. Though the task has been grueling, it has taught me patience and compassion. Even more, it has reignited my interest in medicine.

My husband is not so supportive of my plans to pursue a medical career -- he's even threatened a divorce. I'm just curious if you see any talents related to the medical field in my chart? Thanks a bunch.

Charlene Lichtenstein: I so wish you could give me a birth time - I could then see what is on the cusp of your 10th house of career. I would also like your husbands data...

But anyway, let's see your planets -
Sun in aquarius, mercury in capricorn, venus in sag, mars in aquarius. Aquarius energy demands that you give back to the world. Aquarians are humanitarians and love great causes so it is no wonder that you would graviate to the healing professions.

Mercury in capricorn makes you a careful and strategic thinker and communicator. You carefully weigh your options and are attracted to meaningful yet high level work. Your venus in sag makes you a bit of a independent sort in love. Sags venuses may have trouble settling down and are definitely more firendly than passionate.

If I had your husband's brith data, I would see where his venus sign was. Maybe he needs more tlc. Maybe he needs more encouragement from you and then he would feel more comfortable with you doing something new career-wise.

Does this help?

Washington, D.C.: Hi, Charlene,

Can you help me out? My birthday is July 17, 1964 (I was born in Pennsylvania). I was born at 10:30 in the morning. I am a male who is a sometime student of astrology. These are stressful times for me. I am feeling directionless, as if I have made s succession of bad decisions. Can you tell me how my chart looks now? Is this a bad time for Cancers?

Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in cancer, moon in scorpio, mercury in leo, venus in gemini and mars in gemini. Possibly virgo rising.

As a student of astrology, you may want to read up on the impact of transiting Pluto squaring your ascendant (new beginnings may undergo upheavels), opposing your 10th hosue of career and conjuncting your 4th house of home and security. ANd let's not forget opposing your venus (love) and mars (action) in gemini. Big hits.

But pluto brings change where change is needed. If you have been hanging on to outdated things that may be holding you back, pluto releases then for you whether you want it or not!

Saturn is sitting in your 10th house of career now - learn your lessons in your career. Jupiter now in your 11th brings luck from friends so consider joining a few groups or re-contacting and strengthening friendships.

It is not a bad time for Cancers but with your personal chart, it may be a time of change and transformation for you. And this is all good and needed by the way.

Ailing Scorpio in Washington, D.C.: Good Evening Madame Lichtenstein! I love your chats! The past six months have been a whirlwind for me. I was laid off, then ended
up in a hateful job and I recently broke off a long term relationship (I'm not totally confident about the break up). I was hoping you could let me know if my luck will be changing soon and if/when I'll find that perfect career or soul mate. Thanks!

Here are my stats. Birthdate: 11/12/1975, time of birth: 7:37 p.m. Jacksonville, N.C.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Dear Ailing Scorpio,

Let us check your planets: sun in scorpio, moon (emotions) in pisces, mercury (communication) in scorpio, venus (love) in libra and mars (action)in cancer. Possibly gemini rising. You are very intense and possibly intuitive. You are a sharp communicator and have an incisive mind. You are very attractive and can be very attracted to beautiful people. You may be creative and artistic as well. You take action based on emotions and are very sensitive to others in an argument.

Saturn, the planet of challenges, is transiting your 1st house of new beginnings which can mean that any new direction may be harder than anticipated. New things, new ideas and new people may bring challenges or may leave you with a lack of confidence. But this is a learning time. ANd, since you have just started your Saturn Return (there are may folks tongiht who seem to be in the same position) this frustration and stress may last a little while.

But don't panic or get depressed - we all go through this period and it is a great time to learn more about yourself and test your abilities. Read more about the return at www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope . Soulmates are best found after the age of 30....

Santa Fe, N.M.: Re: my parents' infidelity.

You're right, it was my mom! I blame the Moon placement (in Leo) -- my dad worked a lot (which appealed to her desire for material comfort), but it also meant that she felt neglected. I don't know the whole story, but that's what I was able to piece together.

It was interesting to follow your train of thought as you answered my question -- thanks for taking the time to do that!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Thanks for the answer! I was very curious.

Portland, Ore.: Madam Lichtenstein,

How often do two people have the same stars in their signs? You just answered a question from a person whose stars were the same as mine (Is this a bad time for cancers?), the only difference being the rising. We were born about two years a part. Is it more common then we think? Or rare?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Birth charts are like a set of fingerprints - no two are exactly alike. We may be born on the same day but years, times and locations differ. So while this person's planets may have been similiar to you, the placements in the chart wheel are very different!

So what is your birth information??

Washington, D.C.: I've been in an on-again, off-again relationship for almost a year. I'm a Libra with an Aries moon and Venus in Scorpio (10/12/62, 8:42pm). He's an Aries with a Sag. Moon and Venus in Taurus (4/18/65). Should I give up? What is in the stars for my love life in the near future?

Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Hmmm.

Your venuses are well aspected so there is a great deal of attraction here. Your sun and moon are nicely aspected to his sun and moon. I would say there is a great deal to recommend this match based on suns moons and venuses.

So you possibly have taurus rising which places scorpio on the cusp of your 7th house of relationships. His venus is in your 7th house! Very nice!

For you, you have pluto transiting your 8th hosue of sex and deep personal mergings. I see transformations here. That which no longer works will be tossed out or transformed. It may seem that the planets may decide for you what you cannot decide for yourself. Wait until Pluto redirects (in end of August) to get more clarity.

Keep in touch.

Portugal: Charlene, Can you give me an insight as to how my career is shaping. I just started a new job and I feel a little uneasy about it. I thought it was a good move, it's a great company, but I'm not certain now. Born 11/25/67 in Nazare, Portugal 7:00 in the morning. Thank you very much

Charlene Lichtenstein: Because you were born in Portugal, my ascendant charts are probably not going to work for you. I'll run your chart on my computer and will answer you next week.

Portland, Ore.: I was asking about the same signs and you asked for my birth time -- 6/68/66 6:30 am in Seattle.

This is all so interesting!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Whoa! 6/68/66??

Chicago, Ill.: Having difficult time finding a job after two years of disappointing positions. Previous to that, I was very successful professionally. Any advice or ideas for breaking through on this front?
7/25/67, 6:50 a.m., Dubuque, Iowa
Thank you for your insight!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Okay, you have sun in leo, moon in pisces, mercury in cancer, venus in virgo and mars in scorpio. Possibly leo rising which places taurus on the cusp of your 10th house of career. You can be very dramatic and love new tings nad new people - you shine there. You may be a bit psychic (moon) and are a very caring communicator (mercury), You are careful and conservative in love and a wonderful helpmate. You are very calculating in how you act and react. You would make an excellent detective!

April may bring a breakthrough for you - the sun will be entering your 10th house on the 21st making you more optimitic and openin gup doors. Mercury is there on the 14th through the next month and venus - the planet of love and good vibes - is there from the 2nd through the 26th. So make good use of time! Meet people, join professional groups (mars is entering your 11th house of friends on APril 14th). Get ready!!

Seattle, Wash.: Hi Charlene,
Why do you say the Age of Aquarius begins in about 2025? On what is this based?

Charlene Lichtenstein: It is an estimate. These are epochs or eras. The Piscean age has lasted about 2000 years and has been marked by the rise in Christianity (thus the sign of the fish for Christianity - isn't that interesting...)

As we proceed into the Age of Aquarius, we may become more humanistic. Great causes based on ideals.

There may also be a great reliance on technology.

Harrisburg, Pa.: An old friend whom I have not seen in 28 years sent an e-mail and asked me to call her tonight. I was born on Oct. 23. Is this a good time for me to renew old friendships, or should I wait?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Resend your birth information with your year of brith in time for next Monday's show and I will have a look at your plaents.

Washington, D.C.: Hello Madame Lichtenstein.

I'm "undecided" from last week (the "don't know if I should move to California" question). Thanks so much for the birthday wishes and for answering my question. I didn't get home in time for the chat but hope you got the note I submitted soon after that we would be living in the L.A. area, though if I wanted to live somewhere else in California my boyfriend said he would be willing to move there. If you did get a chance to run the relocation chart I'd love to hear about it. I once had an astrologer tell me I'd do well in the southwest, but that was years ago.

On another note, we were both surprised to realize that my man's an Aquarian not a Pisces. He was born on the cusp (Feb. 19) and neither one of us ever did the math to figure out which he really was. He displays so many Piscean tendencies (he's quite a dreamer) that we're really both just a bit befuddled. Is there any Pisces in his chart? Or maybe because his sun is so close to Pisces he displays some typically Piscean tendencies?

Charlene Lichtenstein: I haven't gotten the note but can you send me the entire question again to Lichtenstein@accessnewage.com and I will run the relocation chart in time for next week's show.

Houston, Tex.: Hi Charlene. I just celebrated my birthday, and I was wondering if you could offer me some astrological insight. I was born Mar. 19, 1976 at 8am in Madison, Wis. I have many girlfriends and enjoy going out, but I have never been asked on a date or had a boyfriend. People are always shocked to hear this -- they assume I'm taken. Truthfully, I've never been able to maintain anything but a sheerly physical relationship with a man. Do you think something in my chart predisposes me to this romantic dilemma, or am I simply too picky?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Happy Birthday!
You have sun in pisces, moon in scoprio, venus in pisces. Possibly aries rising which places libra on your 7th house.

You may be "in love with love" (venus in pisces) idealizing partners or the concept of a love relationship. Your moon in scorpio makes you somewhat secretive and you may be holding back your feelings for fear of being disappointed. You may need to learn to open up your feelings. Trying and possibly being disappointed is better than never trying at all.

With libra on the cusp of your 7th house I can see that you are very attractive and may get many suitors if you open yourself up to relationships. You may also give the impression of being very cavailier and airy or may attract these types of men.

Just a suggestion - you lack earth signs in your chart - taurus, capricorn, virgo. You might do very well to find an earthy fellow - someone with earth in his chart!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Such great questions - and many still waiting in the queue. Unfortunately we have run out of time but I will be here next week - Monday, April 1 (no joke!) at 6p to answer more of your wonderful questions.
Please join me then.
And in the meantime - happy stargazing!!
