The Starry Eye Astrologer
Hosted by Charlene Lichtenstein
Special to washingtonpost.com

Monday, Jan. 28, 2002; 6 p.m. EST

What's your sign? Do you want to know what the planets and heavenly bodies have aligned this year -- in your career, in romance or surprises in your daily life? Each week, "Madame" Lichtenstein, takes your questions on sun signs, lunar influences and all things in the stars.

Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.

Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot.

Wondering how Mercury in retrograde affects your day-to-day life? What eclipses means for you and your loved ones? How to get in touch with your rising sign?

Below is a transcript.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, the washingtonpost.com celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a lively discussion about astrology and the new age. Check out this month’s horoscope on www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope as well as articles on eclipses, void of course moons and Saturn Returns.

Starbite of the week:
Astrology takes many forms. Character analysis is one with which we are most familiar. We can do “character”analysis of people, of buildings, of political events and even natural events like volcanoes. The astrology of news events is quite fascinating and there is a great news horoscope that dissects all the major events of the week. It is called NewScope and it is written by “Wolfstar”. Check out this week’s column on www.AccessNewAge.com .

And now, what do you have to say? Please remember to include your birthdate, time and place of all astrological requests.

Saugus,Mass.: Who will win the Super Bowl?

Charlene Lichtenstein: This relates to this week’s Starbite introduction!
As far fetched as it sounds, it is astrologically possible to tell which Superbowl team has a better chance of winning the SuperBowl. But you would need to have the “birthcharts” of the team – the month, day, year, time and place of the team incorporation. Then you could compare the two charts and see which one is stronger on the Superbowl 2002 playing date. I am not a sports fan so I don’t have team incorporations at hand (nor do I even know which teams are the most likely to play…) but in fact, your question could be answered with the proper research.

Rockville, Md.: Hi, born 7/23/74 at 10:20 a.m. in Queens, N.Y. Are you in anyway convinced that there is a concept of being an "old soul"? I feel that I have knowledge beyond my years and feel this has made me feel older than others my age ... And I always feel as if I am given the harder challenges and have to make the tougher decisions. Any ideas?

Charlene Lichtenstein: I do believe in the concept of “old souls” and know that there are methods to read it in one’s chart. A strongly placed Saturn influence is one supposed indicator along with a great deal of 12th house activity.

In your case, you may be feeling especially Saturnian because you are in your first Saturn Return and are beginning to face those lovely Saturn life lessons. The Return is a three year period from between apx 27-30 where you may feel extra stress and frustration. You want things to happen… now! But they are either out of reach or, when you do get them, it was not what you wanted at all. Read more about the Saturn Return at www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope for more details.

You have sun, mercury, venus and saturn in cancer indicating deep feelings and a sense of family and ancestral connection. All these cancerian planets are in your 11th house of friends and your “mission” in life. (Of course, if I ran your chart on the computer, these planets might actually be in your 12th house – the “old soul” sector. We would have to run it after the show to see.) So I can understand your feelings of life being more challenging for you.

My career path has taken a turn for the surreal lately. What's going on?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well, you have sun in Taurus so you basically like stability in your life. Moon (emotions) in virgo – another stable influence. Fairly down to earth emotionally. Mercury in aries – a robust and pioneering mind. Venus in Gemini – you are flirtatious in love and love a “meeting of the mind” in relationships. Mars in libra – a diplomatic and charming opponent in an argument. You strive for diplomacy. Possibly Pisces rising which places Sagittarius on the top of your chart and on the cusp of your 10th hosue of career. Ah ha! Powerful, transforming and volcanic Pluto is transiting your 10th house – sweeping out the old with a vengeance! Pluto brings dramatic uncomfortable change but change where change is needed. I think what you are feeling now is the several year transit of Pluto wreaking havoc with your long term career plans. This is good, but unsettling. See what you can make of all of it as Pluto’s influence starts to wane.

Bowie, Md.: I left a fairly decent paying job October of 1999 and what I'm doing is not really working out and I'm getting frustrated spiritully and financially. Now my old place of employment has some openings, should I try and go back, knowing that some of the same junk and chaos is there. And yes, I've tried looking for something new but it's not happening. HELP

Charlene Lichtenstein: Please send me your birth information - month, day year and time and I will be happy to see what is going on in the financial and professional sectors of your chart.

New York, N.Y.: Mme. Lichenstein,

Your fame has spread far afield. A dear friend of mine in Beijing has asked me to check in with you on her horoscope. She'd like to compare your reading to that of a Chinese astrologer whom she has consulted. Her birth stats are: 12/07/54, 3:31 a.m., Los Angeles. We'd really appreciate your effort. Thank you.

GLG

Charlene Lichtenstein: How do you like that?

Well I wish I could spend more time on her chart - what I do on this show is really a two minute topline - not even run on the computer! But let's take a look:
SHe has sun in sagittarius so generally speaking she is a gregarious, personable, honest and funny soul. Moon in Taurus indicates that her emotions run deep and are very lasting and loyal. Mercury in sagittarius shows a quick mind, open to new ideas and far ranging interests. Venus in scorpio - passionate, intense and jealous in love - quite unlike her sunny sag sun sign. Mercury in pisces indicates an emotional and intuitive fighter. She may also feel drained of energy sometimes and needs quiet spiritual recharge time.

Possibly scorpio rising which indicates a great deal of activity around home and family issues in February. There will be 5 planets in that sector including retro Mercury. Tell her to think carefully before she blurts out an opinion and if she calls a relative and doesn't hear from them, try again - maybe they did n't get the message the first time.

Hope that helps!

Washington, D.C.: I hoping you get to this tonight. Its my 4th time trying it. Of course, you did answer me the first time, but silly me had a typo in the birthday (a very crutial typo) (sigh)

Anyway, looking for indications that a cancer-libra combo might work, aside from what the sun-sign-only people say.

Her: July 22, 1974 Knoxville, TN time unknown
Him: September 25, 1975 Richland, WA 11:30pm

Charlene Lichtenstein: Thank you for trying again!
She has sun in cancer, moon in virgo and venus in cancer. Sensitive, Loyal in love and can be very romantic and cuddly.

He has sun in libra, moon in taurus and venus in leo. Charming, harmonious, deep emotional well. Loves to be the center of affection - can be very generous in love. Gemini rising places sag on the cusp of the 7th hosue of relationships. He is looking for a friend and partner for adventure.

His moon in taurus meshes very well with your sun, moon and venus signs. An great emotional connection here.

Your cancer signs are homebodies and you may not be as adventuresome as he is but that should not prevent you from having a harmonious partnership. Understand his need for attention - he has to be #1 jsut like the King of Beasts Lion (Leo). He in turn can be very generous and exciting.

I hope that helps.

Columbus, Ohio: Madame Lichtenstein,
I'm curious about what the starts tell about the potential (or lack thereof) of my current relationship. I was born in D.C., March 2, 1974 at 9 a.m. My boyfriend was born in Southern Ohio, September 2, in 1968. I love him dearly and sometimes we get along perfectly, but I'm worried about the extreme differences and similarities in our personalities. Could it be because he is exactly opposite from me in the zodiac?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Do opposities attract?

You have sun in pisces, moon in gemini and venus in aquarius. For a mushy, romantic pisces sun sign, you have a lot of fire and air in how you express your emotions and love. Venus in aquarius may gravitate to unusual types or distant relationships because they are intrigued by global ideas.

He has sun in virgo, moon in capricorn and venus in virgo. Generally he is a very solid and steadfast person and, in love, he may have trouble expressing his emotions because of a fear of rejection. He may be "removed" emotionally but you can bring him out of his shell with a bit of encouragement. Venus in virgo is loyal and practical.

You may take love a bit less seriously than he and can be expansive where he may feel the need for stability.

There are yings and yangs but if both of you want to make a go of it, there is no reason why you cannot harmonize. Just remember what is important to the other!

Rockville, Md.: I have a question that is not related to the future but to readers and people in your line of work. I went to a Palm Reader and he told me I had found my soul mate. I've been in a relationship for 4 years and am very happy. I haven't been able to check with my partner to see if his palm says the same thing. If it doesn't, does that mean he's not my soul mate or I'm not his? What do we do then?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well, I do not read palms so I can't really say if you need to see soul indicators in each person's palm. If you are both happy in your relationship, I would say that you shouldn't be concerned about replicating the pattern in his palm.
Enjoy!

Northern Virginia: Hello there!
I am a first time reader of these discussions, long time astrology enthusiast. I was born June 17, 1978 at 11:55 am in Washington DC. (I am almost certain my rising sign is Virgo, I charted it once.) I am curious to hear what may be in store for me this year, both in my love relationship and in terms of career/life prospects. Any thoughts? It would be greatly appreciated!
A side note: Sometimes I find certain newspaper's (won't mention any names!) horoscopes to be generalized blurbs that are recycled through the various signs throughout the week/month. Often they are way off base - what gives?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Newspaper columns are really just for entertainment purposes only. They can only be general becasue they can only look at the sun sign. I try to give a little more by writing my horoscopes for botht he sun and the rising sign (you would have to read both and meld the readings together) but it is still a bit on the general side.

So let's get to you - you have sun in gemini, moon in scorpio, mercury in gemini, venus in leo and mars in virgo. Okay, virgo rising (thanks).

You are generally a witty and quicked minded person, friendly and sociable. Emotionally you are a bit intense - much more intense than the average gemini sun sign. Can be a bit secretive there too. Mercury in gemini shows a quick mind. In love (venus) you are generaous and expansive and loooove to be adored. Mars in virgo is a creful planner and implementer of action. You build slowly and with ultimately great force.

Love? Seek it or strengthen it after Feb 19 as the sun moves into your 7th hosue of relationships. Venus is alos moving into that sector on the 13th Feb so the vibes and energies are right for love. Go for it!

Saturn is in your 10th houseof career and will redirect on Feb 8 - all that you have learned (and suffered through) will all begin to make sense and you can build your professional success on a strong foundation. Feb seems to be a busy month for you!

Jerusalem, Israel: Hi Charlene,
You promised on last week's show that you will check on the pc eastern time zone chart. Born 5th June, 1955.

Thanks

Charlene Lichtenstein: Got it!

I wasn't far off at all! You have gemini rising, sun in the 12th hosue which indicates that you will not be truly fulfilled until you enter into some type of service or "giving back to the world". Volunteer to feel good.

Jupiter is in your 2nd house of "values" such as your value system, money and items of value. So I would say that htis area is easier or luckier for you (although it is conjuncted by surprising uranus so you may have great ups and down here but basically you land on the "upsdie")
Neptune squares your jupiter so you can be easily decieved in money issues - be extra discerning!

Hope that helps! Thanks for the reminder!

Washington, D.C.: I've always wondered how astrology differentiates two people born at the exact same time. Wouldn't their horoscopes be exactly the same?

Charlene Lichtenstein: The exact same time on the exact same date in the exact same place? Highly unlikely - even twins have different horoscopes because the degrees of the planets and their angles are different.

Northern Virginia: Hi, Charlene! I lost my job last month. With the current economic situation, I am losing hope. Should I consider relocating? A change of career? What are the stars saying? My birth information: March 20, 1965, in Washington, D.C. Thank you for any help you can give!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well please don't lose hope!

You have sun in pisces, moon in scorpio, mercury in aries, venus in pisces, mars in virgo. I wish I had your time of birth and I can see what sign is on your 10th house cusp of career.

But even with this I can tell you that you are prone to underestimating yourself - pisces can be very self deprecating. Moon in scorpio indicates that you have a well of reserve emotionally that can withstand any bombardment. You can be very strategic too. With Mars in virgo you can be very persevering. You may not feel confident but you have no problem rolling up your sleeves and getting down to work. Virgos can make anything happen with good old elbow grease.

Your virgo and pisces planets are being hit by transiting pluto which can upend the landscape. Pluto brings changes where change is needed. It may feel uncomfortable but you will have a fresh new landscape on which to build.
Don't give up!!

Bethesda, Md.: Hi Charlene. Great chat. I'm an Aries, 4/4/77. Usually very high energy, and athletic/physically active. For the past 2 months, I've been sluggish, not able to complete nearly as much exercise as normal and just generally BLAA. I imagine some of this has to do with stress from work, but is there any indication from the stars, when this all might end or turnaround?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Thanks!

So let's see - you have sun in aries (as you say) moon in libra, mercury in taurus and mars in pisces. I would love to know your birth time so I can see what is on the cusp of your 6th house of heath and vitality.

But I can say that as the sun moves into Aquarius and out of Capricron you should feel a bit more energetic. The transiting sun was squaring your natal sun which can sap energy. ALso, your mars, the plant of energy is being squared by transiting pluto which may be giving you more stimuli than you really need now. This too shall pass but it will take time.

I also think that as saturn redirects on Feb 8, obstacles that may be holding you back now will be freed up. That is another square to your natal mars. SO prepare for a surge in energy in Feb!

princessa: Dear Madam L.,
I’ll be celebrating yet another orbit around the sun this week, and looking for insight, particularly into relationships. I have some wonderful ideas, but experience hasn’t gotten me there (yet). Do the planets offer any guidance for the upcoming year?
Other Aquarians I’ve known and loved for years are planning a groundhoggian feast and party. I’m both sun and moon, I think: January 31 1957 New York, NY approximately 5 p.m. Would love to hear what’s up in my houses.
Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Happy Birthday! Well let's have a look - Yup; you have sun and moon in aquarius, mercury in capricorn, venus in capricorn and mars in taurus. Possibly cancer/leo rising.

There is certain seriousness about you that differentiates you from the average aquarius - it is all that conservative, careful Cap energy that keeps you going forward and succeeding better than you ever thought possible. You are also a careful taker of action and can be very persevering! You do not get distracted wasily and this contributes to your success.

February brings lots of attention to relationships so get ready! But expect some crossed wires during the Mercury retor grade so be patient through mid-month. Maybe some travel as Mars transits your travel sector through Feb.

Pluto in your 5th hosue of fun can show creative inspiration but also the possiblity of overdoing it - take it all in moderation!
Okay?

Washington, D.C.: Hi, I was born on 10/18/51 at 1:52A.M. in Seneca Falls, N.Y. My life has taken some strange turnes lately and am wondering where it is "supposed" to go.

Thank you

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have control - astrology just gives you a road map to help you plan the best route!

So, you have sun in libra, mercury in libra, venus in virgo and mars in virgo. Possibly leo rising. You strive for harmony with all that libra. You can be charming, charismatic and sociable. Thankfully that mars in strong and persevering virgo won't let you get too lazy - a problem for those with too much libra in their charts!

Not sure where your life has taken stragne turns - perhaps in relationships since uranus, the planet of surprises is transitng that sector of your chart now and will continue to for a couple of years. Feb will bring a great deal of activity to your relationship sector so hang on!

Frinds come through after Saturn redirects on Feb 8 - they may have been difficult for a few months.

So how is that for a quick overview?

Palm Desert, Calif.: Hello! I emailed you last week and you asked me to ask my question on your chat, so here goes! My birthdate is August 7, 1970 born in Indio, California (Palm Springs area) and my boyfriend's birthdate is April 27, 1960. We are compatible on some levels but some other levels we clash. Can we ever make it?

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in leo, moon in libra and venus in virgo.
He has sun and moon in taurus and venus in aries.

There are great connections here - your sun is very nicely aspected to his venus so your general personality connects to how he expresses love. Your venus (love) meshes well with his sun (personality). Emotionally, your two moons are both ruled by venus, the planet of love. He may be more flirtatious and you may be mmore sensual but viva la difference!

Northfiled, Ohio: July 21, 1952 born in Cleveland, Ohio 12:02 a.m.

I NEED to know if I will move to the ocean soon. Our business is bad and if things don't pick up by August we will be forced to shut down, sell all and start something new.

Want the business to succeed but also would love the opportunity to be closer to the ocean.

So which is it -- a move or postpone the move because business takes a turn for the better? I sure would love if both could happen at once but nothing ever seems that good.

Charlene Lichtenstein: It is always advisable to check a "relocation" chart to see if the ocean area that you choose is harmonious with your birthchart. Which area are you thinking of (since being in Ohio you can easily go east to the Atlantic or west to the Pacific).

You have sun in cancer, moon in cancer, mercury in leo and venus in leo. Emotionally (moon) I see you connecting to the water - cancer is a water sign. You possibly have aries rising which places capricorn, the sign of pessimisim and hard work, on the cusp of your 10th hosue of career. You may struggle more than most but hard work will pay off for you because you learn from your mistakes and can build on your success.

Mars the planet of action is in your 1st house of new beginnings. This can mean that application will have pay off. It can also mean a desire for action. But planting seeds of new projects now can be very good. For best resluts wait until mercury redirects after mid-month so no effort is wasted. Also, avoid eclipses and void of course moons when you start to sign papers etc. Read more about both of these things at www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope to improve your timing.

When you can tell me an exact location, email it to me with your birth infromation and we will check a relocation chart for you.

Charlene Lichtenstein: We have run out of time! Thank you for all your great questions. Please join me next week - Monday February 4th at 6pm for another "Starry Eye"!

Until next Monday night, happy stargazing!
