Coolio: Rap Ambassador
Monday, Dec. 3, 2001; 2 p.m. EST

AUDIO INTERVIEW

"I'm traumatized for life!" said Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum artist Coolio after having his head practically submerged in a plexiglass box that contained a mixture of 40 millipedes, 20 scorpions and thousands of super worms on NBC's "Celebrity Fear Factor." He came out the winner of the match.

Coolio was online Monday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. EST, and talked about his reality TV gig and much more.

Listen to the AUDIO interview.

The rapper has just returned from a USO concert tour for the armed forces in Korea and will travel to Europe for another one to entertain for Christmas. He plans to take taped messages from family and friends back home and use the video as part of his show. He is also national celebrity spokesman for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation which sponsors a national campaign to educate teens.

On the music front, an early single will be released, "One More Night," from his next album, "Coolio. com" and is a tribute to the human spirit shown in the tragedies in New York and Washington. Proceeds from the sale of the single will be donated to victims' families. And speaking of .com, the rap artist is looking for a sponsor for "How Cool Is Your School," a national contest wherein students are asked to write about why they think their schools deserve computers. The rap artist also has a poster for the American Library Association promoting reading which is being distributed to schools and libraries nationwide for the next five years.

Coolio won a Grammy Award in 1996 for Best Rap Performance, Solo, for his international hit single, "Gangsta's Paradise," which was featured on the "Dangerous Minds" movie soundtrack. That song has sold over four million copies and was Billboard magazine's number one single of 1995. He has received six Grammy Award nominations (1994, 1995, 1996), two Billboard Music Awards (1994, 1996), two ASCAP Awards (1996, 1997), three MTV Video Awards (1996, 1997), four America Online Awards (1996) and was the Playboy Music Poll winner in 1997.
