The Starry Eye Astrologer
Hosted by Charlene Lichtenstein
Special to washingtonpost.com

Monday, Dec. 10, 2001; 6 p.m. EST

What's your sign? Do you want to know what the planets and heavenly bodies have aligned this year -- in your career, in romance or surprises in your daily life? Tonight at 6 p.m. EST, "Madame" Lichtenstein, took your questions on sun signs, lunar influences and all things in the stars.

Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.

Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot.

Wondering how Mercury in retrograde affects your day-to-day life? What eclipses means for you and your loved ones? How to get in touch with your rising sign?

Below is a transcript.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, the washingtonpost.com celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a no holds barred discussion about astrology and the new age. Check out this month’s horoscope on www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope as well as articles on eclipses, void of course moons and Saturn Returns

Starbite of the week:
The red bracelets worn by celebrities Madonna, Sean “Puffy” Combs and Michael Jackson are a Jewish mystical folk-custom derived from the Kabbalah, the book of Jewish mysticism. There are many famous devotees of the Kabbalah which uses astrology as part of its teachings. Red is a protective color – there is the belief that tying small red ribbons in strategic places on a newborn’s crib will protect the baby from harm.

And now, what do you have to say? Please remember to include your birthdate time and place for all astrological readings.

Alexandria, Va.: Charlene, I'm a first-time submitter and relatively new to all of this. I have 2 questions. First, I saw the link on your webpage about 'void of course' moons. I've got an expentant family member. What does that mean for a child that's born in a void phase? Also, what can you tell me about my life right now, and any possible future romance? I was born 2/26/75, at 2:45 p.m. in Hampton, Va. Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to the show!

I often get questions about those who are born during the void of course moon. What I have found is that those born under the void tend to be more creative and expansive thinkers but may have trouble deciding on a direction in life. (This may be because they tend to have many interests.) They also tend to be exceptionally intuitive.

You have sun (personality) in pisces (a rather intuitive placement...), moon (emotions) in virgo, mercury (communication) in aquarius, venus (love)in aries and mars (action) in capricorn. Possibly cancer rising. You are very strong emotionally and can overcome any disappointments with good common sense. You are a global thinker and communicator and may have friends from many different walks of life. You are bold and daring in love - you charge ahead when you see who you want. And, you are a formidable opponent - mars in capricorn takes things carefully and strategically and always wins. Hmm.

December will see a great deal of activity in your sector of relationships so expect old ones to require more attention and TLC and new ones to gel. Mars moved into your travel house on the 9th and I suspect you may be tempted to take a trip or find a way of experiencing new stimuli. But tread carefully as Mars will also square your PLuto - do not leave any loose ends at work while you travel the globe. Be sure that everything is in its place as best as you can (pluto does unearth things anyway...).

Venus is now in your job sector. Perhaps a little love at work? The planet moves into your relationship house on the 27th in time for new years eve!

West Coast: Good Evening,

I read your chat's faithfully. About six weeks ago I wrote in wondering if I ever would get a date. You said get out he is out there. Well, I have been getting a lot of attention from this one man lately. I was wondering what you could tell me about is stars. He was born 2/7/63 in HI. My info 6/28/66, 6:30 PST.

Thank you and Happy Holidays.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Ho ho ho.
Let's recall your love placements and then look at his:
You have sun in cancer, moon in scorpio and venus in gemini.
He has sun in aquarius, venus in capricorn (need to know his time of birth for his moon sign).

Your venus is well matched to his sun - the way you express your love is the way he generally likes and understands it. Venus in gemini is flirtatious and loves conversation and a meeting of the minds. Aquarian suns love to connect through ideas.

His venus in capricorn meshes well with your sun (general personality) and moon (emotions). He may be careful about how he expresses his love for fear of rejection or being made to look silly. You put him at ease with your sensitivity and passion. Remember to build up his confidence - capricorns need a boost of confidence from their partners on occasion.

This looks very nice to me. Let me know how it goes.

Philadelphia, Pa.: Dear Charlene,

Love your chats. I'm submitting early since I'll be driving home during your chat.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you'd have on the following:

Me -- 6/16/66, 11:58 a.m., Washington, DC
Husband -- 6/17/67, 11:30 a.m., Schenectady, NY

We've been trying to start a family. Is it likely we'll succeed in the near future?

Kindest thanks if you can address this question.

Charlene Lichtenstein: okay. I am not an expert in medical astrology and don't usually look at health issues in charts. However, let's look at your birth planets and see if anything comes to mind:

You have sun in gemini, moon in taurus, mercury in cancer, venus in taurus and mars in gemini. Possibly virgo rising which places virgo on the cusp of your 5th house of children.

Your husband has sun in gemini, moon in libra, mercury in cancer, venus in leo and mars in libra. He seems like the type that strives for harmony in his life. He may be the mediator in arguments, trying to find common ground and compromise.

You seem more rock solid and careful, especially in how you display your emoitons or when you are in love.

With Virgo rising, there are a great number of planets transiting your 5th house of children in December which leads me to believe that it may be a good time to try to conceive. The sun moves in on the 22nd (optimism, long term plans, missions in life) and venus (love) moves in on the 27th. Mars is currently in your house of relationships (marriage) so there is energy and enthusiasm there.

Seems like a fertile time for both of you.
Please let me know what happens!

Arlington, Va.: Charlene, your chats are fascinating!
Born August 22, 1970 in Twentynine Palms, CA at 3:30 pm PDT. Because of the cusp, I guess, I have gotten differing reports on my birth sign/rising sign. I've been told I was a Leo/Leo rising, a Virgo/Leo rising, and a Leo/Aries rising. What the heck am I? Any forecasts for the winter for me? I have been plagued with ear problems (hearing loss and dizziness) for most of my adult life---Could this mean anything?

Charlene Lichtenstein: I have no idea where 29plams is in California. Can't even find it in my extensive atlas! However, if it is anywhere near LA, you would have sun in leo and cancer (23 degrees) rising.

Let's check your other planets:
sun in leo, moon in taurus, mercury in virgo, venus in libra and mars in leo.

Mercury in virgo is being squared by transiting pluto which can disrupt speech, communication, hearing etc and pluto has been in sag for a few years now. Maybe that is what is happening with your hearing?
You may feel rather expansive as the sun moves through sagittarius through Dec 22. If you have cancer rising, this may manifest in expanded opportunities at work that could result in more money. Mars is in your house of travel now so you may be tempted to seek new vistas. Relationships heat up and you may be very busy around new years eve.

Hope this helps!

Northern Virginia: Hi Charlene, I am a Scorpio, born November 15, 1970, 7:45 a.m., Pittsburgh, Pa.

The last 3 years have held tremendous changes for me, several moves, job changes, separation and pending divorce from my spouse (10/28/71). I am wondering if I am entering a more stable period, and if any time soon will be favorable to begin a new relationship. I feel more steady than I have in a long time.

Thank you.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Sounds like you had a fairly typical Saturn Return. This is a three year period apx from 27-30 of change, frustration, stress and general angst. You can read more about the return period at www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope

It sounds like your return has finished and that you feel on firmer footing. The best use of the return is the hindsight and knowledge it provides you. You know more about yourself, what motivates you and what is best for you.

As far as your planets are concerned, you have sun in scorpio, moon in gemini, venus in scorpio. Possibly sag rising which places saturn in your 7th hosue of relationships (the stern teacher) and volcanic pluto in your first house of new beginnings.

It seems to me that you will be testing the waters for a bit. Saturn is retrograde in your 7th house which can indicate delays. It directs on Feb 8 and then all your lessons and trials will pay off. You may meet someone older or more established than you.Pluto in the first hosue indicates that you will undergo many new transformations in the next few years. You can also change the landscape of your life, launch tremendous new projects and sometimes have the ground shake under you unexpectedly.

December should be a very busy month with new things, new people and new ideas. Go with it and keep your energy high. You may also entertain at home as Mars enters your 4th hosue. Plan a few home -based holiday gettogethers especially with family.

Happy holiday!

Glasgow, Ky.: Charlene--

Please help! I have missed being on your program, but have tried.

This year has been horrible for me-- leaving the place I loved (for husband's job) with no friends even a year later. My job is okay-- I love what I do. Family wise I cannot imagine staying SO financially strapped (two houses for sale) and so emotionally barren.

Leave/stay-- it is so hard to say. Help?
3/27/53 1:30 a.m. Paris, France

Charlene Lichtenstein: Let's have a look at your chart.
You have sun in aries which is a fiery, energetic palcement. Mercury in pisces - intuitive, spiritual and creative tinker. Can be prone to depression but only if your surroundings are not in sync. Venus in taurus - solid, loyal, sensual in love. mars in taurus - careful, stubborn and not prone to quick actions. Aquarius rising for your current resident chart(but cannot guarantee for your natal chart - only have eastern time zone tables in front of me)

I see Pluto is in your 11th house of friends so if you see new friends, you will meet an avalanche of them! The sun is also in your 11th house - optimistic social situations. Again - you must get out there and make the effort. Saturn is curretnly in your 5th house of fun so I can understand that you may feel depressed and unable to get going. But the planet redirects in February so put n the hard efforts now and they will pay off later.

Astrology tells us the possibilities but we must put out the effort. If you put out the effort to meet new people - join clubs or religious organizations or take a class for the sake of pure enjoyment, you may find that you can easily expand your social circle. But you have to make the effort. Do it in December !!

And one last thing - Mars, the planet of energy has just moved into your money house so again - if you apply yourslef, you may be able to alleviate your financial situation now. Decide what is truly important to you. Mars will help you achieve it.

New York, N.Y.: Hi Charlene -

Love the chat!

I -- a woman, born Dec. 13, 1976, Wilmington, Del. --had a fabulous first date on Friday with a guy born May 26, 1970, Brooklyn, NY.

The date was fun, but I am not sure that he'll call. What do you see as our odds for success in the future?

Thanks!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well, you have sun in sagittarius, moon in virgo and venus in aquarius. You have a sunny, open and honest personality and may gravitate to unorthodox love interests.

He has sun in gemini, moon in aquarius and venus in cancer. He appears to be a fairly interesting guy to you. He is full of ideas and opinions and can seem very expansive emotionally. Yet he can be very sensitive and carign when he is in love. You understand this with your moon in virgo which can be a bit no nonsense but is also very loyal.

Your sun signs are well matched and your moon is well aspected to his venus. Just be sure that your expansive, globe trotting venus (how you express love) does not trample his sensitive and home loving venus in cancer. He may pout when he is hurt or neglected. Know the warning signals and there will be dates 2 to the nth!

Arlington, Va.: I'm curious about what my sign thinks my career path should be. I find myself craving vastily different goals. I've followed one, but can't help to wonder if I should have followed another. Any chance my sign helps with this? Born 3/15/1971, WA., around 5:30 p.m.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well, let's look -
you have sun in pisces, mercury in aries, venus in aquarius and mars in capricorn. You are a bold thinker and communicator and may love humankind but have trouble deciding on one particular human. You are a careful planner and executor of action. You can be very strategic and political. As you get older, you will be more and more successful.

Possibly virgo rising which places gemini on the top of your chart. Gemin is the sign of the twins so you could find yourself going in a couple of different directions.

Gemini energy indicates that your career has to fulfill you intellectually. You love the flow of different ideas and opinions, discussions and ideals. Perhaps teaching or writing? Gemini is also the sign of the air so broadcasting, air travel, internet,(especially chat rooms...)

Saturn is retrograding in your career sector now and will be doing so until early Feb. Expect more breakthroughs at that time. In the meantime, you may get a few clues of your future goals from family and home based projects - pluot is opposing that Saturn and creating volcanic changes from home to career.

Hope that helps in your timing.

Glasgow, Ky.: Thank you. I'll let you know!

And Happy Holidays to you.

Charlene Lichtenstein: okay!

San Diego, Calif.: I am really on the fence when it comes to finding wisdom and knowledge in the stars, but I have always been curious about if having more detailed information then just one's sign can make a difference. I have been in a relationship with a guy for the past 6 months. He was born on Saturday, July 8th, 1967 around 10 a.m. I was born on Tuesday, May 5th, 1970 around 1:30 p.m. While we have a lot in common, we sometimes seem out of sync. Based on the stars, is there a reason for this and can it be surmounted?

Charlene Lichtenstein: (Please only send your question once.)

He has sun and moon in cancer - very sensitive and caring. Venus in leo which is less caring and more self interested. SO I would say that generally he comes off a sa very sensitive guy but when he is in love, he can be a bit of a king who loves to be pampered and adored. He can be very generous in love too but does expect to be given all the attention.

You have sun and moon in taurus and venus in gemini. You too are a bit of an enigma - you appear to be very solid and stubborn in general but when you are in love, you are flirtatious, perhaps a bit fickle and love a meeting of the minds. (Taureans are a bit earthier and love the more physical side of life).

Your suns and moons are well aspected. Your venuses may be going at two different angles - geminis can be gracious and flirty but are not great at pampering and feeding egos all the time. Leos need to feel like number one. It can be too much trouble for geminis who can get bored often.

Does that sound like you two?

Alexandria, Va.: Hi Charlene,
This is my first time here. I have always been interested in astrology.
I was born on 04/11/69 at 7:54 a.m. in eastern India (lat. 23 degrees, long. approx 75)
My wife and I are expecting our first child in Feb. '02.
What do you see in my near future?
Also, do you see any movement in my career?
Thanks

Charlene Lichtenstein: I have run out of time, but tell you what - I will run your chart on my computer and answer your question on my next show. Can you send me your wife's birth information? (Lichtenstein@AccessNewAge.com)

Charlene Lichtenstein: Oh my - We have run out of time! (It goes by so quickly!)

Thank you all for your great questions. For those who I couldn't get to, please try agan next week - Monday December 17, at 6pm.

Until next Monday night, happy stargazing!
