Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.
Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. In the July 15, 2001 edition of the NY Times there was an article titled “ A Touch of the Soothsayer in the Big City” which told of a persistent superstitious streak in the city from hiring a voodoo priestess to help local old files to installing a fountain in a bank according to feng shui. Superstitious? If it works what does it matter?
And now let’s get to your terrific questions…..please include your birthdate time and place for any astrology questions.

My girlfriend (DOB 9/7/53, Kansas City, Mich.) and myself (DOB 3/7/59, 6:00 am, Atlanta, Ga.) stopped seeing each other a little over a month ago. My girlfriend, whom I adored, ended our 2 & 1/2 year relationship. Last week, we met for lunch. It was great to see her and and visa versa. However, the feeling that she split up with me makes me wonder if the love was one sided. Do you think there is something worth pursuing?
I've been in and out of work for the past year and have just started a job I'm excited about. What do you see in store for the future.
Charlene Lichtenstein: Let's see:
You have sun (personality) in pisces, moon (emotions) in airy Aquarius, mercury (communication) and venus (love) in robust aries and mars (action) in pisces. Probably pisces rising which places practical virgo on the cusp of your 7th house of relationships.
SHe has sun and mercury in virgo - so far so good; they sit in your house of relationships so her general personality and the way she communicated meshes well with your idea of a partner. She has venus and mars in leo which are compatible with your venus and mars signs.
I would not say that the love was one sided but I seem to think that she is the type of person that needs a great deal of attention and affection. Leo energy needs to be the center of attraction. Aries planets indicate where we are fairly independent. It may be that she needed more attention than you could give?
I do see this as a relationship with potential, if you both want to give it another try. Tell her to communicate her needs more explicitly.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Without even looking at your chart, I can tell you that anything is possible to a willing heart. You have to be prepared to get out there and look.
Who should you look for? Well, you have sun in virgo, moon in libra and venus in leo. Possibly virgo rising which places pisces on the cusp of your 7th hosue of relationships.
You give the impression of being very practical and proper but in love you see the grand and glorious. You can be a very generous lover or may seek a very generous lover. You are also highly romantic and should seek someone with the same inclinations. Pisces on the 7th house can also indicate being in love with love and idealizing a partner. Moon in libra also indicates that you are attracted to attractive people and try to achieve emotional balance. Therefore try to find someone who doesn't tip the boat too often - it could be stressful for you.
Jupiter, the planet of luck is currently in your 11th hosue of friends. Why not join some clubs or groups or seek out friends with whom you can meet new people? The time is right!

Please shed some light onto the emotional/romantic landscape I find myself in. I was born around 10:30 a.m. in south east Asia, 03/14/69. I have a few "romantic materials" right now but I just can't seem to focus on any of them because all of them seem to lack something.What should I do with these current "leads?" Should I follow my heart and hold out for something better, and if so does it look like someone new who can make me feel fulfilled will appear at the horizon SOON? Or the stars seem to indicate that that special someone is within my current portfolio but I'm too particular and blind to recognize him and work on his case? Thanks for your insights.
Charlene Lichtenstein: Oh my. A lot to ask for of an astrologer....
Let's check your planets:
You have sun (basic personality) in pisces, moon (emotions) in capricorn, venus ( how you express love) in aries and possibly taurus rising. This would mean that intense scorpio is on the cusp of your 7th house of relationships.
Pisces can overidealize love and relationships and may be attracted to dependent types. They are also highly romantic and are always seeking the "perfect" relationship. An admirable but tough aim. WHile you are by nature a soft pisces personality, in love you are the robust pioneering ram - you see who you want and go after them. This may cause some confusion on your would be partner - different signals. And with moon in capricorn you may hold back emotionally sometimes, afraid of making a mistake or taking a chance.
As far as your choices are concerned, I would want to see what their planets look like to ascertain the most compatible match. Can you send some on?

Female 8/27/53 and male 5/3/53. How strong is their connection! Is he head over heels or going through a passage? What is in store for her future with and without him?
Charlene Lichtenstein: So let's check the planets:
Female: sun in virgo, moon in aries, venus in cancer and mars in leo.
Male: sun in taurus, moon in sag or capricorn, venus in aries and mars in gemini.
He is a pretty careful guy - taureans are slow and steady - they don't jump in with two feet; they sort of wade in slowly and carefully. Also, he has venus in aries which means that he calls the shots in love. WHen he sees who he wants, he goes after her.
SHe is fairly sensitive in love and can be very practical in general. She feels deeply and is not afraid to take action when she needs to.
They are farily compatible - her venus is well matched with his sun and his venus is well matched to her mars. His love nature may be a bit more direct and pioneering than hers, but viva la difference!

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in aquarius, moon in capricorn, mercury in capricorn, venus in sagittarius, mars in scorpio and possibly pisces rising.
Your sun is sitting in your 12th house which can make you interested in giving something back to the world through charitable work or self sacrifice. Aquarians in general are very humanistic and strive to make the world a better place. Your venus in sag makes you very platonic and friendly in love. You may even be interested in more than one person at a time!
With Pluto transitng sag, expect some transformations in how you perceive love relationships over the next few years. You may also make some transforming new beginnings or meet new people that will really change yourlife. Jupiter, the planet of luck is currently transiting your 5th hosue of romance so I see some possibilities there over the next couple of years. Septemmer will be a good month for pursuing relationships - both business and pleasure thnaks to transiting venus and the sun.

I wrote in Aug. 6th and you were kind enough to respond. (6/10/71, Williamsburg, Va. 5:21 a.m., thinking about major work change). You had indicated that it might be helpful to run a chart.
Isn't my Saturn return over? I turned 30 a few months ago and the change (if I chose to accept the opportunity) would be late this fall on the West Coast.
On another note, turning 30 has made me think about children. Is there a better (or worse) time astrologically speaking to plan on having children?

Charlene Lichtenstein: I would say that your return is over - you have your saturn in 28 degrees of taurus and saturn is well into gemini now.
You do have sun in gemini which is being opposed by transiting Pluto in sagittarius as well as mercury (thoughts) in gemini. SO there is bound to be some volcanic changes still apace. What may be interesting is to run a relocation chart for you for the west coast city to see how things could shape up there with a move. WHich city is it?
Planning children depends on many factors. It may be that after age 30 one may think of a biological clock or the fact that they may be more financially secure to provide for children. I would say that it is difficult to generalize astrologically - it depends on the chart of the particular person.

When you are looking at charts what signs to you look at for compatibility? Is just sun signs. Say she is Cancer in Sun, Gemini in Venus and Scorpio in Mercury and he is Gemini in Sun, Scorpio in Mercury and Leo in Venus. Do you look at the other planets too?
Finally, what do the stars say about this match?

Charlene Lichtenstein: I like to look at the sun sign , which is the basic personality, the moon sigh - how that person expresses themselves emotionally, the venus sign - how they express themselves in love, and what sign is on the cusp of the 7th house - the house of relationships and marriage.
She, with her sun in cancer, is very mothering and sensitive. Yet her venus in gemini makes her more platonic and friendly in love. There also has to be a mental connection - maybe even more than a physical one.
He is generally very chatty, friendly and witty. His general personality meshes well with her expression of love. In love, he likes to be the king of beasts - leo. He likes to be pampered and admired. In return he is very generous and magnanimous in love. There is a nice match to their venus signs showing compatibility.
If you have birth times, I can see what is happening with their 7th houses.

Hi, Charlene -- It's such a pleasure to be able to participate in your chats (I never get home in time...)! My question is this: what do you make of it when you and your partner have two astrologers tell you respectively that you have great things going astrologically, and but you just aren't able to make the relationship work? When this relationship crashed and burned (after four valiant attempts, I might add!), my astrologer said it was a "tough one because it almost doesn't compute" that it didn't work. I don't have a lot of angst about it anymore, but the cognitive dissonance between this type of info and what was going on in reality still bugs me. Any insight?

Charlene Lichtenstein: You can have the greatest charts and if one person is not ready for a relationship, it ain't gonna happen. I always say that it "takes two to tango".
What is one person was having a troublesome aspect in their career area? Then maybe they were not attuned to working at the relationship. Or maybe there were family issues to contend with.
When did the relationship first fall apart? I can take a look at the aspects of the time and see if anything significant popped up.

You have sun in aquarius, moon in sagittarius, mercury in capricorn, venus in aquarius and mars in aries. Possibly libra rising which places lucky Jupiter in your career sector. Are things bursting with possibilities professionally? I would focus on career- that is where your luck lies for the next couple of years.
Also, in September, mars moves into your fourth house indicating that you will have more energy for home based and family projects. You will be kept busy.

Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in pisces, mercury in pisces, venus in taurus and mars in taurus. If I had your birth time, I could see how the planets are transiting particular areas of your life.
Pisceans are being impacted by transiting pluto which creates upheavals and transitions. This is a several year transiti but will wax or wan depending on the degrees of the pisces in your personal chart.
Let me tell you, pluto makes life uneasy but it also brings change when and where change is needed - change that we are too afraid or comfortable to bring on our own. It cleans away the debris and let's us move to the next step. Uncomfortable? Probably. But it may be a shakeup that you will one day appreciate.

The sun transits your financial sector in September (23rd) giving you great opportunities to get out of debt. You will start to focus on it more carefully after Sept 2 as Mercury enters your 2nd house. Career issues may chaff since Saturn, the planet of lessons transitis yoru career house for the next coupleof years, but it also means that if your work hard, your efforts will pay off handsomely.
